Accidentally shifting into first after red lining second

So I accidentally shifted into first gear after redlining second because my 2015 gearbox is extremely notchy and has a hard time getting to third from second. I did this twice, and it felt like I broke something but the car drove fine for a long time after doing so. I'm not new to driving manual or anything so it's not really my newbieness that did it. Is everything okay? I'm honestly scared. The car has less than 1000 miles on it.

yup that's no bueno.. you mechanically over reved the engine. Time to most likely do a compression test and possibly a leak down test. Most likely the you had some sort of valve float happen since they were never made to rev as high as it probably went. Not to mention the possible damage to the drivetrain.

Really? I've been driving the car since, and it's been doing very well. Nothing is unusual and no weird sounds are occurring. Do you think I just stressed the drive train and tranny but didn't mess up the internals? I'm sure I'd feel it if I did.

It's worth it to get it checked out, regardless how it feels while driving now. Mechanical overrevs can definitely cause some damage.

Damn. I just got the car a week ago. Okay, I'll call the tune shop soon. They do a lot of mechanical work too.

i'd have it checked.

i recently did the same from about 6.5k or so in second gear. i have aftermarket valve springs and all, but i've noticed some valvetrain noise ever since.

the head is getting checked out as i type this.

What?! Oh god. Well I don't have aftermarket valve springs, the car is stock right now since I just got it on Saturday. I've been driving it all day (achieved 24mpg my last 30 mile trip ) and there have been no valve train noises. I thought I heard something funky but it turned out to just be transmission whine. I've been really careful when shifting from second to third now. It's really notchy, regardless, but I've been making sure it GOES into third and not first.

mine was bad luck. i hit a bump in the road just as i went into gear. i was also talking to my son, so distracted. bad luck.
there were not marks on the valves or pistons, so i don't think any valves are bent. i still have to clean and check the lifters. i'm thinking one collapsed. that would explain the valvetrain noise.

on another good note: machine shop says my head and valves are good. time to inspect the lifters.

Glad your head and valves are good good luck with the car. And yeah, it's been driving fine, I'm just a bit more scared to redline it from a launch now. I don't usually drive the car hard anyway, so that's not a big deal. It's driving well and driving fast so as long as I don't so it ever again, I'm not gonna worry about it.

well, you can't baby the car for the rest of it's life, so revving it's not going to hurt anything. worst case scenario: if it DID break.. better just get it over with and find out now LOL.

but it sounds like you are fine.

Yeah I drive like 100 miles a day and I've driven almost 90 today and everything has been good. Redlined it like three or so times today from a stop and everything is good so I'm glad I didn't blow **** up on my brand new $35k car. Also, I'm 17. It'd be embarrassing to tell my dad "Hey I ****ed up my car, let's take it to the shop." Even if I were to pay for it myself lol

My dad's first car was $500 and it was a Chevy Citation LOL everyone's gotta start somewhere. I'm just thankful for the current position I'm in. I've been dreaming about getting an Evo for literally 5 or 6 years. Now that I'm working, I agreed to split the price between me, my dad, and my mom, and life is GOOD.
