Turbo upgrade or bottom end build...

Guys! What would u do first, MHI turbo upgrade or forged rods, pistons and crank? Budget is 9k... Car is my DD and will not be tracked or dragged.. I know the turbo would be more fun but I'll be limited in torque with stock block and wont be able to max out the turbo what do u guys think? What did u guys do first? Mods in sig... Thanks!

Turbo and cams (GSC S1). You'll be able to make another 40wtq, and probably 100whp on the RRE dyno and be plenty safe.

Yes, but I have an 8.

Regardless, plenty of people make good, reliable power on the stock bottom end with the 18k. It's the turbo the car should have come with.

I just got done doing an MHI on my car a couple days ago. Made 352/308 on Mustang dyno with pump gas. All bolt-ons, no cams. There is a list in the video.

Edit: I missed the list of mods in the sig part, with all you already have and with a 9K budget, you want both. The MHI alone is too much, you need a bottom end fix-up to make proper use of it with what you have.

No reason to build the motor. The car will be plenty fun with adding the 18k to what he has, and maybe a manifold like the new cast piece from MAP. Save the rest of the money for tires, brakes and fuel for having fun in the car. Or some suspension mods.

Agreed. The 18K is a great turbo, no need to build the block though. The 4B11 is more than capable of handling it on the stock block.

With 9k, I'd do:

Turbo/supporting mods, manifold, mild cams, and a set of Ohlins

That should still leave some money on the table for anything else that comes along.

Awesome! Thx for the feedback guys Sweet WW KVandy15! The cast MAP mani would definately be nice for some extra top end, thx letgetthisdone! I might do a conservative tune with an MHI and MAP mani for now until i can build the bottom end, maybe even put in a stroker kit for some peace of mind later on

I'm guessing ur on crappy 91-93 oct fuel coz 352/309 is kinda low for an MHI even on a mustang dyno... I made 350/340 on RRE dyno with all the mods on my sig and stock turbo before i got E85, O2 dp, and s1 cams

350 on the RRE dyno is probably close to 300-310 on a mustang dyno.

Its really personal preference. If I were in your shoes, depending on your end goal, I would shell out the money now to build the motor. Then as far as turbos afterwards, you have more of a choice bc the motor can handle it. I know everyone says the stock motor can can about 380-400tq, but I personally would like to have more torque than that to play with knowing my motor could handle it, while also making insane HP numbers too. Just my .02

Yea it's 93 and I'm only giving it about 22PSI, very conservative street tune.
