Help with building the EVO X to 400WHP

Hi people of the evo forum!

I'm new to the forum but have a 2014 Evo X with a few parts on it already but want to push it up to 400 WHP and was looking for some recommendations/help with what I should do next.

The parts on it already are :
Cosworth Dry Panel Drop-in Filter
Cobb Turbo Inlet Hose
Cobb Accessport Version 3 - Currently on a Stage 2 OTS Map
ETS Upper Intercooler Pipe
ETS Test Pipe
Invidia Q300 Exhaust

I know I’ll probably need a bigger turbo for it but just wanted to have some recommendations and other parts I should put on it to keep it relatively safe. The car is also going to get tuned down at English racing when I have some more of the parts for it.

Thanks.

I am also in BC and I dont have easy access to E85.

Welcome! Curious what car did you come from before the evo?

So without e85 you'll need:

Bigger turbo - MHI 18k
Exhaust manifold
Larger injectors - ID1000 etc
Larger fuel pump - DW65 etc
Downpipe
Intake

That should get you to 400ish whp on pump gas

There's a TON of information here so use the search button and dyno threads and you will find plenty of information, especially on the MHI 18k turbo.

I've seen (rarely) stock turbos with every bolt on possible + e85 hit 400-410whp but without running e85 I've seen the stock turbo FBO around 320-350whp on 93

400 whp on pump gas with an 18k may depend on what Dyno you're using to measure. With similar mods I've seen everywhere from 350-400hp on 93oct depending on which dyno is being used (and probably somewhat the tune).

That said, the 18k should net you about 50hp over a maxxed out stock turbo and still gives you a very responsive, streetable car with a stock-frame/stock location turbo setup.

A FMIC would probably help with your goals as well. And, you should probably budget for a clutch upgrade if you're going for 400whp!

Dynojet is universally the most accurate so I definitely think the 18k could hit 400whp. Yeah I went through the stock clutch super fast with only bolt ons, but that's cause of my spirited driving Now I have a competition stage 3 clutch

Oh and you'll need an Electronic Boost Controller Solenoid (EBCS)

I have a ported 18k with id2000s and open o2 dump and made 472 on pump. That turbo absolutely rips. Made 502 on e85. It's an awesome responsive turbo. It was enough to get me to 10.8 @ 129. Literally no loss in the low end.

400whp is no problem with just a compressor wheel change to a 20g. Which is essentially what a FP71hta is; which is another turbo option that is much cheaper than a 18k and spools gobs faster. The other mods listed: id1000, 65c fuel pump, 3 port ebc and tuning is pretty much all else you will need. Intercooler upgrade would be a good thing but not absolutely required. Downpipe and free flowing exhaust are a must.

yeah, idle is super lumpy but smooth enough to daily. I was originally going for a bolt on gtx series, but scored an awesome deal on a 18k.

I just got an Evo and live in BC too!
Just remember. Chevron 94 isn't better than 93 in the USA or even 92 from WA state. So getting to your goal is going to be a bit harder.

There is an e85 station now in north/west Vancouver

I've been looking how to get that 400 point mark as well.
