Evo X MR rebuild discussion

I am looking to build my MR engine and transmission. The current transmission in my MR is ****ed. Cracked t-case as well as other mechanical issues with the clutch and other internals.

Kozmic/shep/jacks are my route destinations for the trans in terms of a build.

Would I be better off buying a used trans ? Either way it’s going to be sent out to one of these three companies. My current transmission is out of the car as we speak.

I found one for $2500 including shipping out of a evo x mr with 44k miles. (I would also have to buy a t-case as well,)

I am going the Dodson clutch pack route for the clutches. My question really lies on keeping my transmission and shipping for a overhaul and rebuild or buying a used trans. What would you guys think?

Also does anyone have any stories/experiences with these 3 companies ? Would be curious to hear your guys input

I also got a quote from kozmic for $7400 including a working trans i believe. Should i dump my trans and buy a new one, or let them fix my trans . Car has 116k on her

Don't buy a trans, Kozmic's core charge is only like $1000 IIRC. And you can get that back by shipping your current trans to them.

For the engine, get a long block from English Racing. Easy button for a reliable engine that will handle big power.

What did the $7400 include? Depending on what your end game with the car is, might as well tackle the trans now.

I would also suggest getting a quote from Moore Automotive as well for compassion. They actually service the SSTs and their tuner Chris Hoover is amazing with SST as well.

Depending on who you get to build your motor as well will dictate the pricing. Could you buy a built long block and save down time, yes and will it cost you a little extra money, it could depending on pricing you could get for your existing shortblock to be built.

really on the 4b11 the biggest driving factor to building the motor is deciding to sleeve it or not.

If you're having a shop build the car, you should be consulting them in what to do, not the internet.

The ER "Race" motor is $17k. But that's all the options. You can call them and go through what you need and don't need and come out spending less. Not having head ported save $2500 or so immediately (IIRC), or example..

Having the best 4b11 available comes with a price tag.

If building a 4b11, you should always sleeve it.

I good full engine build (long block) with quality parts, ported head and sleeved, if your cores are fine, will cost approx $8-9K

That is NOT including labor of taking the engine out, disassembly, assembly and putting the engine back in. It will cost you at least $10-12k in and out with the full long block build

Anyone that says it's cheaper has a crap build. Sleeving alone is approx $1600.

I think my 4g64 engine was about $8-9k in parts, headwork and machine shop, so you're not too far off. That was also buying parts for well below typical advertised prices.

The 4g63 2.2 build I just finished for a client was $14k in and out, and it was pretty much a full bling build.
