Rebuilt motor turbo upgrade
Rebuilt motor turbo upgrade
Hi all,
couple years ago I felt the itch to get back into the evo world and found a private sale 2011 evo 10 GSR with 48000 miles. Bought it and took it home and it felt a little slow but thought I would find a boost leak or something. 2 weeks later I decide to check it on evoscan and during my pull the car dies and I can’t get it to start. Finally got it limped back home and it felt like the clutch wasn’t engaging correctly. Took it to a local shop that works with dsms and absolute worst case it was the crankshaft moving because one of the Main bearings was shot. I’m guessing the previous owner modded the car with a big turbo since the car still has a big down pipe and exhaust manifold. Decided to try and rebuild it myself to save some money and put in full forged internal and had it machined to a slightly larger piston.
it has been a forgotten project for the last year and a half but now that I have a home with a garage it will be resumed in the spring.
since I’m not rushing decide to upgrade some of the other parts as I rebuild the motor. I have handled cams and springs in my ix but as far as turbo I am a novice.
since there are already exhaust manifold and a down pipe do I need a kit or could I save money and buy just a turbo?
thanks in advance!

This is the list of mods before I bought the car. I forgot I had it saved.
Ok, so based on the mod list it seems like it is a stock turbo and stock fuel system.
You'll need injectors and a fuel pump for sure. I'd probably setup for E85 assuming it is local to you.
From there, I'd probably look at the Forced performance stock location turbo upgrades. It looks like they offer the 18k and the Red. I don't have any experience on a X for what those turbos are exactly capable of but go hit the dyno section and pick based on other results. From what FP's website says, the 18k should get you there with better spool than the red but I know on my 9, I love my red setup.
