Need help on my daily

Hello if anyone has advice or can help me figure out what’s going on I had originally purchased my x and it needed timing done the shop that did it put a 2010 rom on it and it never ran right and was stalling I sent it to another shop to have them try to figure it out it went in with a p050b and p0300 they refreshed it to a 2012 rom but it kept going into limp mode and had low vacuum sitting at 12inhg they couldn’t figure out they had me pull the valve cover and check my cams and timing it seems like I have aftermarket cams but I don’t see any stamps anywhere I have not checked the timing yet the only mods that Ik of are Cobb air intake, Cobb cat back exhaust, and Cobb 3 port boost control solenoid

Why did the original shop change the rom while doing timing service?
Do you know who did the original tune?
Was the car throwing codes before you had the timing done?

When I purchased it here in Missouri the dealership took it to habibi motorsports and had them do the timing and tune it. they said that they were having issues tuning it and had someone from Florida do it that the shop owner knew
The only code that was on the vehicle was p1874 but I believe I have an upgraded clutch pack causing that but I don’t know for sure the shop I took it to tried the teach in procedure and it stayed which makes me believe it’s an upgraded clutch pack

I asked about why they changed the rom while performing the timing service to determine when the problem started. If the car ran fine, they should have done the timing and verified proper operation before moving onto anything tune related.

I thought you might have visited Habibi. I've had an AWFUL experience with them. They did a turbo install for me last year which resulted in 2 return trips, a loss of $1.8k, and an unsafe vehicle. Most of their work was sloppy, some of it dangerous and there were things they lied to me about. I ended up completely redoing all of their work, and as an amateur, completed things perfectly on the first attempt.

I am sorry to hear about your headache on a new purchase. I would contact a known reputable Evo tuner yourself and stay away from Habibi at all cost.

Yeah do you happen to have any recommendations on whom to take it to I’ve tried looking online and haven’t found anybody that seems like they would be able to help me

I cannot recommend anyone locally unfortunately. I've been burned and only work on the car myself now. My X has been e-tuned twice, but the gentleman that helped me is retired. If you want to go that route, I would search this forum or start a thread for recommendations. If you don't mind a drive, and would prefer to get tuned on a dyno, there are some shops in Chicago with lots of experience (AMS, Boostin, etc).

Regardless of the direction you choose, the tuner can give you a base map which you can use to diagnose your current mechanical issues.
