The current Evos have aluminum hoods and front fender. The roof on the MR, RS, and SE are aluminum so the use of aluminum on the X in those areas isn't a weight savings over what they are already doing.

I can't help wondering how its possible for the car to gain that much weight given they must have spent a lot of time and money developing that aluminum motor to save 27lbs over the 4g63, then they decided to go w aluminum fenders, hood, and roof to save even more weight.
So lets say they had stuck with the 4g63 and left the body panels as steel, that would have put the weight increase at 400lbs. Theres no way a different tranny and clutch setup could account for that type of gain. Plus, the GSR w regular tranny and clutch still would weight close to 300lbs over the previous gen car..

I understand that the AWD system will add weight to a car.. but you think they would have taken out stuff to compensate... like sound deadening. or just put a lightweight exhaust... right there that should come close to 60-70lbs..

its kinda like the new M3 .. they give you a list how much weight they shaved in the engine the body /carbon fiber roof exemple/ etc. And yet the new M3 is also much heavyer then any previus one...

Not that it matters, but my G35x weighs in at 3650 lbs, which makes the weight of the Evo X even more disturbing. My next car will be either the Evo X or the new STI. The latest US STI specs show that it will weigh in just under 3400 lbs, with hardly any aluminum bits on it. That's a huge gap to the Evo X.

i think if the wight really matters, it would be easy to stripp it down to a very light form. The reason why i'm saying this ,in th RS X is actually lighter then the IX RS. So probably the extra weight is more like" comfortable or luxurius stuff".
I assume like Subwoofer, cup holders, sound materials, carpits, stero, etc.

AWD system raise weights
2nd, sometimes weight cant be resolved any lower then a certain point. because total weight is one thing, but there has to be a balance of forward and rear end weight to keep the ratio balanced.

Those spec sheets really bother me. Its very upsetting to see that almost everything i want in a car is in the MR version but not the GSR version. The problem with this is that I want the GSR because of the 5 speed manual.

Im really hoping (and praying) that the N/A options in the GSR version are just not standard and you have to pay extra for them. I would hate to have the Evo X without HID's or heated front seats.

Please Mitsubishi, be smart

Could the canadian weight be listed like how BMW lists their unladen weights where it includes a set amount for the driver, fluids, and luggage?

Could it be that it is tuned for 91 octane? When I was in Ontario 2 years ago, I could not find a gas station with 93 octane offering.
