Canadian EVO X spec sheet
those numbers might not exactly be right...
THE MR and MR premium have the same weight...can't be true The premium add the power sunroof and the sound system with subwoofer and amplifier with the NAVI system thats a few lbs more than the MR I guess
+ WTF no difference in brakes and suspension or what???
Gonna go with the GSR...

Frankly, I don't really care what engine they put in future evo models as long as it gets the job done. I do agree with the X not being a purist evo anymore. From the evo I to VI, it's been a homoligation special to satisfy WRC regulations. The thinking back then was 'Ok, we built a bad-a$$ rally car now we just need to tweak it down a bit to make a street legal version'. They didn't care if the car isn't accepted by the general masses because they know it's performance will speak for itself and it did and scores of enthusiasts held the evo in high regard. The CT9A series was still true to this philosophy albeit in a slightly diluted version. With the X, the philosophy is more 'OK, we've established the evo name, now how can we get the masses to buy this car' hence the switch from all-out performance to performance luxury. This switch is a risk since mitsu runs the risk of alienating it's main market, performance enthusiasts, to try to get other buyers to like the evo. We've seen in product presentations prior to the X launch that mitsu is aiming for the 40-50 crowd with the X instead of the 20-30. And so the X, which could have been the best evo ever, has been dolled up to catch the attention of BMW, MB and Infinity crowd but has disappointed it's legions of loyal fans, me included. If I had wanted a performance luxury sedan\coupe, I would've gone for an M3.

Hmm...ok, while I can't say whether or not you can afford an M3, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most Evo owners cannot. I'm mean $55,000-$65,000 dollars for 'premium performance' is a lot of scratch, I don't care who you are.
For the shear fact that you can get almost all of the M3's performance and a little of it's premium feel in a $36,000 car is still pretty impressive in my book. And just to reiterate, the M3 costs an additional $30,000! I mean you could almost buy 2 Evo GSR's for the cost of one M3.
So what about the Evo's true price point competitor's. The new STi. Nothing has been written on this car yet so the jury is still out and I know aesthetics are totally subjective but to me the new STi just doesn't look like a $35g car.
How about the new BMW 135i? 306hp twin turbo for $35,000+. Not bad, although I just read an AutoExpress article where the new 135i lost out to the Audi TT and a Volkswagen GTI! Oh dear...
So what does that leave us with? The 5 year old 350Z (with a really sweet new motor) or the new $40,000+ new G37?
So again, in the $30,000-$40,000 range, until we see some hard numbers on the new STi, heavier or not the new X is still the car to beat.

i agree with most of what you said except, the 135i to the tt or gti comparison: how is the bmw inferior to the GTI?

They loved the engine and brakes but everything else came off a bit flaccid compared to the TT and GTI. Believe me, I was pretty surprised myself. I was contemplating trading in my VIII for a 135i. Now I'm not so sure.

i just ordered my phantom black evo X MR premium yesterday! i so excited!
Cry me a river guys! the car is 200lbs heavier wop de doo! 3/4 of you guys complaining about weight the of the car probaly weights 200lb or more. if you want to lose weight run on tead mill and stop eating so much fast food. i dont think 200lbs is going to make a big difference on a street car. If your going to race with the car, just gut the car. If the car was 200lbs lighter eveyone would be winning and growning like a little girl and complaint that the car is too noisey, or the car has too much body roll, or it does not have navagation, or it does not have a sun roof, or it does not have yaw contol, or it does not have leather seats, or it does not have 9 air bags. all these new luxery items adds weight. BOO HOO. its just 200lbs! your average american weights over 200lbs.

I had noticed that the MR and the MR Premium weighed the same when I originally posted the spec sheets on evoxforums. I can't imagine the sunroof glass, mechanism, and steel roof, coupled with the amp, three extra speakers including a sub, the navi (head unit to head unit notwithstanding), and the 30gig HD all don't add up to a big enough difference in weight not to mention...
I sort of suspect they guestimated a bit when they printed up the info for the dealers to show customers..They probably didn't have all the info at the time they had to go to print the specs for the binders..

So, after skimming through the specs of all three models...I'd be torn...I LOVE alot of the features on the MR and MR prem. however, I don't know if I love them enough to trade for an auto. And for anyone who's going to say "but the twin clutch is faster...blah blah blah" I don't care if it can change gears faster then me...this car begs to be driven, not to be half driven.
Its too bad they didn't at least have the option for a 6spd manual in the MR.
