'08 Mitsu Evo Insider
I'm with Msatchmo!
I have never been a big corvette fan, but did have the chance to drive a ZO6 (C5) and was VERY impressed.
I beleive that the main point is that while (IMHO) the Evo X is a better looking car, and has more creature comforts, I would have expected an increase in performance (acceleration) not just that it MAY be faster around a racecourse than the EVO IV. Everyone is guessing at the price since we can't seem to get any info out of Mitsu. But all indications are there will be some pretty stiff competition for the money!
If the straight line performance is similar to a Speed 6, I'm definately out!

Nope I don't work for GM or any car company. I have just been hunting for the following for awhile:
- A fun to drive car
- Something quick/fast that can be a daily driver
- Something affordable (30-40k range)
- 'Attention Getter' type car... i.e. something that just makes me smile every morning when I walk up to it and get inside.
The 'coolest' car I've ever owned was a 1997 Eagle Talon back in 2002, it wasn't the turbo/awd version either, but it got a lot of looks and was fun to drive. It was also a very good cheap car that I picked up used.
I'm looking for best bang for my buck. I always thought a corvette was way over my head and loved the idea of an EVO X that could go ALMOST as fast as a corvette, but was AWD so I could drive it in michigan winters, had a backseat, and would sit somewhere in the low 30s to mid 30s all decked out.
Now we are getting reports that the 4.5 0 to 60 times that the protype X was trying to brag about are really 5.0-5.2 sec 0-60times on the american versions of the car and the price will be more like $35-36k for a decent GSR and $38-40 for an MR. Add on top of that the silly restrictions like MR being ONLY the new SST (which I don't want, I want a manual) and the fact that the GSR will miss out on some of the "MR" type stuff... better wheels/brakes perhaps/suspension/leather? etc.
I've been waiting for months for this car. My old cavalier died a good 2 months ago and I was ready to be first in line for the new Evo. I called my dealer about once a week for any updated info and got either wrong news or no news. This site has had 500000% the information that mitsu has yet this site isn't the one trying to earn my $35-40k of hard earned cash.
I'm 26 and have a decent job, but that is still a huge chunk of change to drop on a vehicle. Especially when there are 280ish HP new malibu and new accord in the low to mid 20k all decked out... sometimes i think i need to just stop being stupid and get one of those.
But, I'm only young once, I want my 'cool' car before I get married some day and have to win WWIII with my wife to get a neat car because we'd be saving or paying for kids/college/house/family stuff.
If for only a few grand more OR the same price... I could get a corvette which IMO and many others has a much higher 'cool' factor than the EVO than I may end up doing just that.
it's just a shame because if mitsu had better info, better customer service (info from dealers/etc), and better options/pricing I would probably be excited about the Evo as much as I was a few months ago when I couldn't sleep at night because I wanted the thing to come out already!
Now my Evo fever is starting to die out and I find myself considering a lot of other options now that we are in the high 30s almost 40k range.

It just sucks, if they had made this a 4.5second car stock, I would have no problem paying high 30s or even 40k flat for it.
But the fact I'd have to put a few thousand in mods and void my warrenty to get it there makes me look toward a BMW 335xi or the corvette + beater car for winter route.
Luckily I have a business trip where I'll be done till the end of March so I can just watch the EVO launch, see the prices, etc and make a better informed decision.
I feel bad for all of you waiting for a car who need one right now, because I don't think mitsu is givng you much to work with, and it wouldn't have been that hard for them to do a little more PR work.
