X 1/4 mile times
I could really give a sh*t about the SST's time as I would never consider owning one, but the 14.0 quarter for the 5MT is really, really, pathetic. The JDM IX ran a 12.8 and USDM IX ran 13.2. Assuming their weight gains to be similar, that means the USDM X 5MT will be a low 14 sec. car...
.
I understand the Evo was never "meant" to be a drag car, but the bottom-line is that straight line acceleration is important to most people, including myself. There is an allure in knowing that you can beat cars that cost twice as much in the straights and demolish them in the twisties - its getting difficult to say that now.
The original allure of the Evo is fading fast. Its a pricey pig that seems to have lost its way in the desperate attempt to gain market share from loyal Euro buyers by adding things that should never be in an Evo and subracting items that should.

they did a test on that in a magazine i read comparing the X and IX to see which one is still king and the ix beat the x by 2 secounds around the track and alittle less than 1 sec. in the 1/4, it was car and driver but i can't remember the name.

i used to be one of those "let's wait and see, and i bet the X will be better than the IX" guys... but the more info i see about the new car the more it seems like mitsu ****ed up. i HATE the fact that the EVO and Lancer look damn near identical. the fact that it's slower than the IX is also a big **** up. yeah, they made it heavy, but why the hell didn't they just give it more power to compensate? a good 350-360hp woulda been great. it used to be able to slaughter cars costing 2-3 times as much, now it'll be slower than cars the same price an likely some cheaper coming in the next couple years. that's ****in sad.

well i just watched the BMI race between the EVO IX and X...sad. the EVO X just got it's *** handed to it. it did show faster cornering speeds in some places against both the STi and the EVO IX, but it looked like a 350Z on the str8's.
what's sad is that from a roll, these things are slower than Z's and S2000's now, so those two cars would make up a lot of ground on it on the str8's. mitsu better do something about the power in the next couple years.
it's sad because you see cars like the GTR making huge leaps and bounds in performance (and price), but at least the new price is justified because the car is an absolute beast. but the EVO's taking steps backwards in performance, while making advances in places that no one who will actually buy the car cares about in the first place. i've always hated mitsubishi because they are idiots and make ****ty cars. i still believe that. the EVO series up until now was the only thing i liked about them. now they've ****ed that up too.
