there's one thing this article has that people here obviously don't have...PERSPECTIVE!!!

mitsu is trying to sell cars, not have the best stats on paper with no sales...
Let's talk about YOUR perspective here... This is what the article states:

"But it doesn't have the same high rpm kick as the 4G63, and honestly we miss it. Instead, the intercooled and turbocharged 4B11 builds boost cleanly and in a linear manner even from low engine speeds, where it has the 4G covered."

I don't understand how you got your interpretation from that text, but it's pretty obvious to me what these 2 sentences mean. I agree, the power is more linear because of the smaller turbo. But that directly implies less high rpm power.

see the word "instead" that mean the opposite of. and what's the opposite of building boost linearly? turbo lag and then when you hit full boost the power comes on real fast... hence the word "kick"...meaning that they miss the exhilarating feeling of the boost kicking in.

i think your mistake is that you assume a more linear power delivery automatically means less peak hp. this isn't a given. there are WAAAY too many variables to make such a broad assumption.

does the 4G63 make more power up top? probably yes seeing as mitsu underrated that engine. were they talking about this in the article? NO!!! it was about power DELIVERY and not absolute power numbers.

it sounds similar when honda switched from b18 to k20 in the integra / rsx....the newer i-vtec had a smoother transition when the vtec cam lobe came on and not the hard transition of before

The funny thing is you agree with me... it does make less high rpm power. That's all I said. Is a smaller turbo car more comfort drivable and linear? Of course it is! Especially my 100hp TDI. It's not exactly a barn stormer though is it?

Aha I knew it. I remember the intitial acceleration tests were just so slow and just didn't add up. Yes the more weight and slight bump in power means it will not be as quick as a IX in straight line, but it should't be horribly slow as initial tests were showing. There are plenty of cars with similiar power to weight numbers that are pretty quick.

exactly. when the rsx type s came out it was universally destroyed by the B series lovers. they swore the "hard edged" integra type r was faster than the heavier, toned down rsx-s. and initially it was. but then people started to mod the car, and the true evolution of technology became apparent. fully modded ITR's couldn't stand a chance against the new RSX's. the VTEC switchover in the ITR made the car feel real fast. the smoother i-VTEC in the RSX made it feel slow. dyno a tuned version of both and numbers don't lie.

i believe the same is happening here. people haven't even tuned the 4B11 yet and it's already called crap. based on what? FWIW the UK FQ360 gets it's power from relatively minimal mods.

Yes, please post the mods list for the FQ360. I can't seem to find it in the 10 seconds I searched

here's a portion from the mitsu press release:

Power Upgrades by HKS

As with the previous Evolution models, the Lancer Evolution X is available in a range of power upgraded variants. Both FQ-330 and FQ-360 HKS power upgrades are available from launch on manual transmission variants only.

The FQ-330 model utilises a breathing kit[1] and ECU re-map to achieve the additional extra performance, while the FQ-360 benefits from a further ECU re-map, new fuel pump assembly and additional standard items, such as carbon lip spoiler, vortex down-force generator, sports meter kit and premium leather seats with techno suede fabric inserts.

Full power output and torque figures will be published shortly.

ok guys...i don't think many of us ix owners are saying the x is a bad car....that's not the point...it's a great car....it's just a step back for the purist type driver out there is all....most people in the world will prefer the x over the ix...just like most prefer a honda civic over the evo or whatever....i mean the civic is an awesome car too...but it is totally different than the pure driving feel you get out of the evo ix....i mean look at the civic si mugen editon.....looks awesome...has great suspension....but still only has 197hp and even less torque.....actually car and driver says it's a little slower than the regular civic si....and it costs around 30k for the mugen....yet people will buy them...why i don't know...i mean the evo is only a little more and has 300hp and almost double the torque and it's awd where as the mugen is front wheel drive.......this is just an example of why purist type drivers get upset....more for the masses doesn't equal a better car...just more money to be made for the dealers...it's sad

Good post hey some people find fat people sexy (not that there is anything wrong with that), some people find IX good looking (not that it's really ugly or anything), some people find X fast (not that it's really slow or anything)

the fact that the stock turbo, despite being smaller, makes this much power bodes well for tuners who don't want to spend tons of cash swapping turbos, internals, etc.

this can only be a good thing.

PS: vortex generators are back
