The boost map is programmed into the ECU to taper off like that. The IX boost follows the same shape. They do this to prevent detonation, heat soak of intercooler, who knows but it was this exact same way on the VIII and IX and can easily be fixed by stopping the ECU from controlling boost. Will the stock X turbo make as much hp as the IX? Probably not but its nowhere near its limits at the moment I am sure.

I disagree. Although there are precious few stock dyno plots, every one I've seen makes max power around 6200-6400 rpms. 5700 rpm is not a good rpm to be making peak hp.

You cant compare the two motors, once has mivec only on the intake, one has mivec on both the intake and exhaust. And for further proof of the IX declining boost curve here is a img of a totally stock IX 91 octane. I agree it seems the IX turbo is slightly larger but the X turbo has a ways to go before its maxed.

I must be seeing things, because that power and torque curve look infinitely better on the IX. NM the 18psi max boost. Thanks for posting it. It gives a real world comparison.

I think you are seeing things, because every STOCK IX graph that ive seen, shows that both peak power and peak boost, are right after the turbo is fully spooled. Then after that the boost tapers, and the hp figuers go down. Dont know what graphs you are reading.

Ok then... I see that obviously people are not quite up to the challenge of reading a dyno plot. You may want to look at that red plot and see where it peaks vs the spool psi.

IX HP peaks at 6100~ rpm.
X HP peaks at 5600~ rpm

IX TQ peaks at 4400~rpm
X TQ peaks at 3600~rpm.

The X has more area under the curve.

I don't know too many ways to make a motor not ping at 23+ psi on regular gasoline.
Exactly. EVO X won't be making a lot of power with that turbo.

No. Boost taper on the VIII and IX was difference of 3psi (19-->16psi). There's a big difference in tapering by over 8 psi. I am willing to bet that the stock turbo on the X won't breath as much as the previous gens..

Exactly...and considering that the X's already run 23psi and only make this power is very dissapointing to me. I mean you can tune and take away the taper but with this smaller 15g turbo its only going to hold maybe 17psi. I wouldn't suspect full bolts on willl still yield over 300whp but still going to be atleast 20-30whp short of IX's with full bolts ons. That just my 2cents.
