IX vs. X Survey
I dunno...looks pretty good in terms of resale where I'm from: Autotrader
So do housing prices but, when you see what people are actually willing to pay it differs significantly from the asking prices. Just throwing in a little reality check.

I love the IX but I seriously doubt it there are too many other options on the market today. You could just buy an older model EVO VIII and tune it to where you want for a cheaper price than purchasing a used stock IX if that were the case.

lol all the IX owners keep saying the values will hold or go down. All the non-owners say it's going to drop. Some Evo owners are delusional when it comes to how much their Evo is worth, and it's reflected in the asking prices of the ones who are selling. Hardly anyone is paying those high asking prices. Don't forget that these cars are utterly beat on when they're driven. People don't buy Evos so they can drive them like a grandma. Prices on 8 and 9 Evos will go down.
It's a pipe dream to think the X is going to do anything other than push the prices on VIII's and IX's down. There is an incredibly tiny but vocal minority of Evo owners that want a raw, obnoxious race car style Evo -- the reality is most people who buy this kind of car want something fun, but still comfortable for daily driving. They don't take it to the track, or if they do, it's a few times a year, with the rest being the daily grind. After the initial thrill has warn off, they're left with a rattly, loud, obnoxious car, and they realize they don't want to put up with it every single day. For that reason I expect the X will outsell the VIII and IX without any problem. And for much the same reason, I'm betting the hatch STI will outsell the boy racer 04-07 STI. They may be going farther away from "their heritage" as people on the forums like to say, but it will make them more money, and that is the bottom line.
Think about it...65 Mustang, 68 Camaro, Stingray corvette's, etc; they all weren't collectors cars straight away either. Not saying that the Evo IX in particular is a likely candidate, but I'm not going the extremist route and saying that for sure they're not (as you are).
I think the real answer is that all the prices are going to drop. There is always a small possibility that, for some unknown reason, the car gets marked as a popular car all of a sudden, but its way to early to know that. I have had my 03 Evo 8 since the day it came out and I am still impressed at the prices for the used Evo 8's in my area. Even KBB, which admittedly has a poor track record for actual price, shows the value of these cars holding pretty firmly for there years. For me, the car has only lost 1/3 of its original value at my current milage etc. and has continued to sell in the 18-25k price range for ~4 years now.
That's what I've been noticing down here as well. I've talked to people selling, and talked to people that have sold, and talked to people that have been the buyers of those sold vehicles. Contrary to what's been said--they're still selling in the mid 20k's. I'd say that's at the very least...decent.
As far as what's going to happen in the future...no one will know. I'd say the odds are against these two iterations (the 8's and 9's) holding their value indefinitely, but so far it's been a good run. Perhaps they'll become "collectables"...only time will tell.

I think eventually the IX will be valuable, however I mean as a classic in ten or more years. Right now, I don't know, I have never seen so many people so busy when everyone keeps saying we are headed for a downturn.
Its probably important to ask what is a good measure of holding its value.
Personally from ebay shopping for the few months:
I think the IX will hold more value than an VII. And that is only among purest who know the diferences between a IX and an VIII. The thing to ask yourself, if ur in the buying or selling mode is: Is what you have or want worth the money?
Stupid people in public auctions will make incredible mistakes because of the 'auction buzz'. Heck watch barret jackson and laugh.
There have been some worthy collectibles in the last 20 years. They are worth more when they are:
1) Rare or limited production
2) Un-modified or if modifed sold as a 'modifed car" such as a SLP Firehawk or some near factory moder. (buschur may qualify here because the BR's were sold through dealerships)
3) Something special about the car over function that makes the buyer need it.
So If you have a 'tuners' demo car you may turn a good dollar for it. If you havent modded it, same. But if you have dropped 10K into a car in mods you more than likely have reduced the value of the car or limited the amount of qualified buyers.....
And unfortunately for us who are watching, we cant risk spending 30K on a 2 year old car that someone may have abused by incorrect tuning or bad driving tech.
So now is IX going to hold its value ? Some will. Most wont. The evolution has proven to be a wonderous car to mod, thats going to hurt.

I don't think people will pay THOUSANDS more for mivec and different interior. The 05 has the 10.5 turbo and you can get a used one for next to nothing.
If you have a low milage well maintained car it will hold its value.
