IX vs. X Survey
And by hold you mean not drop as fast as it could. Make no mistake, even if you put the car in a climate controlled garage and drive it 0 miles it will depreciate every single year.
So get out and drive the damn thing, it's a freaking Mitsubishi not some kind of exotic car!
Same goes for a STI. These cars weren't meant to be garage queens, they were meant to go out and kick *** year round.

car values are not great right now anywhere... i dont believe that the x will have any effect on the value of the ix or viii.... all awd performance cars with 4g63 in them have and will be sought after for a long time....
I bought a '01 Camaro SS in late 2003 for 14.5k, sold it a year later for a thousand more. Five years later, it's probably only dropped by a thousand or two.
So while the 8/9's definitely won't appreciate in value, I do believe they will "flatline" for quite a while. My guess is the 9's will stay in the mid 20 range give or take depending upon condition and rarity. The 8's have held in the high teen, low 20 range for quite a while.
When I was interested in Sti's in early '06, you could have bought an '05 for 25-26k. That's basically where they stand today 2 years later.
Knowing all this, I picked up Evo #2 last September. It's a TB IX SE that had 6k miles, completely stock, mint for $26k. While I knew the X was coming out, I'm not willing to buy a first model year no matter how good it is. I'm pretty confident that I would be able to sell both my IX's for the mid 20 range in a couple years.
So all you VIII/IX owners take heart, the major depreciation hit is past. The prices folks are getting now will stay sticky for years. Meanwhile, enjoy your ride.
My goal is to have 2 400whp grocery getters and another "fast car" for weekends. Hellooo GTR!

Take ebay for example. The market price for items is determined by what people are willing to pay; subsequently the selling prices fall to match. In the ebay microeconomic structure, prices will adapt to the seller's willingness to buy.
There is no way the Evo, of any production build, is going to be worth 100k. Thats just non-sense. Especially since the future is non-gas vehicles, there by making our cars pointless. Hope to see this in my lifetime, but probably at least another generation away.
its always funny to me how modern people see cars as a very temporary item .. I plan to drive my car till its payed off then till it stoops working... I chose my cars very carefully so i will be happy in what I am driving for 8 years. And its funny how people buy a car then dont want to drive it much to keep the milage low....LOL forget cars and ride the buss then...
