Vortex Generator?
Do those things really do anything performance wise, over 5 hp?
Pictures and dynochart on HP gains please.
The only thing the VG did was increase the downforce produced by the rear wing on the VIII/IX body style by creating air turbulence.
The Mitsubishi Evo IX brochure from 2006 has a diagram in it that shows how the vortex generator fins direct airflow down the back of the car. I'm sure I don't need to mention this, but they are all angled in such a way for it to optimally perform. If I remember to bring the brochure to my office tomorrow, I'll scan the page and post it.
it's not needed on the X because of the rear diffusers under the bumper and the new wing design. if you stick a vortex generator on the roof it'll just be there for nothing. didn't anybody else read about the EVO X's aerodynamics?
It doesn't matter what the hell it does, it's not like anyone who had one on their VIII & IX's ever used them to their potential.
I like the look of it, and if I can get one for my X, I'll be a happy man.

It would be interesting to see if the airflow over the top of the X seperates before the wing as bad as it did on the VIII/IX. Then it could be seen if the generators would be useful or not. Functional or not i think they would still look good on the X.
THere is still quite a bit of roll off on the sides of the car towards the back. You can check that with my super unscientific method of opening the back windows while driving down the highway. Once you start feeling the pressure changing rapidly, youll know you have solid airflow over those open surfaces making all sorts of cool noize.
From what I read, the new 10's have something underneath the rear bumper (i forget what its called... some type of air difuser) that makes the vortex generator obsolete. That is why the new models won't be coming with them. Like I said, this was on one of the reports I read.
