Diffusers affect the air flowing under the car. Vortex generators affect the air flow seperation over the top of the car. The JDM IXs can be seen with the generators and a rear diffuser. The X either has a better flow over the top with less seperation or the rear wing is not as functional as the previous models.

It all depends on the the angle of the divergent section, in this case the slope of the back window down from the roofline. Just from pictures, you can tell that the X has a smaller angle slope than the VIII or IX, so flow seperation would occur further downstream. Where exactly i cant say, the mathematics of turbulent airflow currently can not be solved with our level of understanding. It will require wind tunnel testing.

What i do know is that previous data on divergent slopes give a rule of thumb of 7.5 degrees of slope in order to maintain boundary layer adehsion. If you place vortex generators in the divergent path, you can increase that slope to almost 13 degrees. Even with this, the flow is not re-attaching to the back window. It is possible that reattachment occurs on the wing itself. But again, i will need wind tunnel data to do any sort of educated specualtion.

Also, given the new angles and dimensions of the X, the vortex generators would also need to be redesigned, i.e. the hieght of the VGs woudl need to be altered to be optimized at a given velocity. This i can do very easily if given the exact dimensions of the flow path from the front of the X to the end of the roofline and a given desired velocity to optimize to.

Uhh, are you referring to VG's for the Evo X? Last I checked they didn't exist on USDM X's.
