neat, looks liek some sort of a modular type setup, being the block comes in two pieces almost.

I agree.... Not sure why people are thinking the IX has beefier rods.

One thing I will say is that while you're in there, drop in some more heavy duty sleeves into the 4b11 and I think that this motor will be able to hold close to the same power as the 4g63. If not, I'm sure that some company will make an iron race block for the car. For me, though, ~400whp, depending on the dyno, is probably where I'm going to be content. I don't need any more than that, and so far the motor has shown that it can easily accomplish that.
There are plenty of members here making over 500whp on stock bottom end reliably with no issues and used as daily drivers..No one has ever known the limits of the 4g63 really.. I believe fynetune or some other company in FL was able to make over 600whp on the stock bottom end. We will find out soon how much the 4b11 can make before it blows something up

look down the middle of the casting right before it hits the piston, the IX rods have elevated cast surfaces downt he main ridge whilst the X rod hasn't, thus making the rod look more "beefy".

am i the only one impressed by the 4bolt mains????? thats awesome! this motor is built to hand it to people!! very well thought out engine.

as for it being modular, has anyone seen the ecotec engines? same design. and those motors are rediculous.

At the risk of sounding completely ignorant (hey, I don't build these things, I just drive 'em) ... Is it just me, or are those significantly larger water cooling passages than on the 4G63?

hey turbotriz, is that a 60-2 crank trigger wheel? any chance of measuring the diameter of it? vw's come with 60-2 wheels, but they're stamped and some stand alones will throw a code for a skipped window.

I wonder what the weight differences are.

I agree it is nice to have a bottom end that can handle more then the 4g63 can stock. However if you are going to double and triple the stock power output i would think breaking down the engine and building up the bottom end is a must regardless.
