Wonder what is different in the US-spec shift map? Why are they promoting the fact we are getting the same version everyone else does, when they are making shift maps specifically for the U.S. market? Hopefully it's just some regulatory thing and has nothing to do with performance, because if the ARE tuning the performance, it's probably going to be less aggressive. My thinking is that I highly doubt they are making it shift MORE AGGRESSIVELY given the U.S. track record with warrantied driveline components and drag racing. So, I'm guessing best case scenario is they are actually making the launch control so ineffective for drag racing that nobody will buy it for such a thing. And then...the only failures of the gearbox should theoretically be from intended usage (daily-driving, track, auto-x, snow, etc.) instead of drag racing. That would kinda suck for me if I ever did want to take it to the strip on occasion, but I wouldn't be heartbroken. However, if they make it generally more worthless for everything, I'll be pissed, and I won't get one unless/until we can get the Japanese spec transmission maps loaded. There is also the remote possibility they will make it perform even BETTER so people perceive the MR here as a worthwhile investment (that they are getting some value for their money in other words) but I think the likely reasoning is they are just trying to cover their ***** from warranty cost given the razor-thin profit margins they must have here for corporate, and our knack for breaking expensive things on brand new cars...

I heard all the evo X MR's ready for delivery are 08' models and they will be sent back because of the delay. The 09' model year already started with some car companies (incl mitsu) so we would have to wait for the 09 MR's.

There's an external filter on the transmission. Looks like you could put on an oil bypass type sandwich there and route to an external cooler.

This is not true. According to Mitsu, they have to get these out as 08s to fulfill orders

I do not know the specific difference on the shifting for the US vs Japan spec. I know obviously the ECU tune would be different for US gas. I will say two things though. This is not a drag racing car. While the launch control is effective, it is still slower than a manual GSR as it limits power. Adding power may not even help as it can vary thigns to reduce that on launch to preserve the tranny. The GSR is the way to go for people that like drag racing. Secondly, the shifting (especially in super super) is pretty aggressive on the near finished model we tried out a few weeks ago. We will be able to give you a better idea shortly though

This is the exact same technology in the new GTR which sports about 500hp. The Evo one is a bit more compact, so probably a bit less tq capacity, but still, the transmission is designed for serious sports cars only.

^ There is no MR in Japan, only Evo X w/ or w/o SST. The SST's are out in Japan.
