From 06 STi to Evo X
Ya photoshop can work wonders...(lowered, took out all the dents, etc...) But ya great car, I miss it..kinda. She just got old on me.
The new Evo looks good.
I'm following your footsteps in the near future, my 05 STi has about 65k miles on it and I'm slowly taking it back to stock so I can sell it and get a new Evo.
I love the Graphite Grey, I can't decide between that and the Red.

If I had to sum up the entire comparison in two words, I would say "grown up." The "luxury" features are nice. The ride is smooth and less harsh, but in no way does it hinder handling. It's actually quite weird. You would think it should handle bad, since the ride is pleasant (compared to the 06 suby). But we all know how it handles. This thing would eat my STi up in the corners. It's simply incredible, you have to experience the handling in this car.
The acceleration is great. It's a fast, sub 5 sec 0-60mph car. However, it does not pull like my STI did. You have to get used to the power band. In my STi I had the minimal if any lag, then a burst of power, then taper off some what dramatically. In the X, it's mostly top end. You have a very linear power band. It's some what puny till about 2K rpm (due to 2.0L), then a spiriting increase to 3K, followed by a swift boost from the turbo, that I believe pulls quite strong till about 6K. The power starts to the taper off till redline (7K). Once you get used to it, the engine is actually quite amazing.
The gear box is another great point. I love how the gears engage in this car. It's almost like playing an arcade driving game. The shifts are effortless. I don't think I've missed a gear yet actually. Even under spirited driving. One thing car does need is a sixth gear. I miss this aspect from the STI. The tac hovers around 4K in highway driving at 80mph. Although it's quite fuel efficient when not driven hard.
I do however, get the feeling I'm not driving the same kind of machine anymore. I miss the boxer engine sound. So loud and unique, it just sounds mean. The X sounds more like an Italian sports car from inside the cabin. But at idle, you can barely hear it. It doesn't feel like that rugid, I wanna drive you through the mud, type of machine (STI). Its more like the refined, I wanna keep you very clean, scratch free, type of car.
The X is overall just more refined in every way to my old STI. It's plusher, quieter, and has some cool creature comforts. My buddies and I say it's similar to my old RX8, but with *****...lol. The car is no BMW, but it's great having some refinement with world class performance. It's still an EVO under all that new packaging. You can't really be disappointed with this car.

I actually like the new STI's looks and interior, but have a feeling I'd end up modding it way more then I want to, to get it to feel like I want it to, where as the X would stay mostly stock with exeption of a bit more power.
I'm a Subaru driver but I've always been a closet Evo lover, and I'm going to make the X my next car as well. I'm also starting a slow part out process to return my 06 WRX back to stock. I'm ready for something with refinement but still good solid performance. My WRX is a brute but it's only fun when driven like a brute, or it just beats me up with it's rough ride and poor composure.

I'm not a huge fan of the new STi's exterior (although I do like the interior and think it looks nicer then the new Evo's interior) but it could grow on me. My only issue is that I want Navi which means it's going to cost me ~39k which is 9k more than my 05 STi cost me and I don't think it's worth it.

The stock tune on the new 08 STi also scares the crap out of me (very lean like on the 07 STi which have had a lot of blown engines) so I would want a reflash, but most of the dealers around me are getting very bad with warranty claims on even lightly modified cars thanks to SoA.
The only thing I plan to do with the Evo would be suspension upgrades for autox. But I'm sure a year from now I'll have replaced a ton of stuff.
To sound completely newb. I have a GG evo without the aero kit and I didn't even realize you had the aero kit untill I read the next post and went back to look at the pics. Am I the only one that finds that the aero kit doesn't look that different?
I don't know, I like the car the way it is. But anyway! grats on the car and GG is the best.

You can do worse than having to decide between an Evo or an STI
. Congrats on the new car. I've felt the tempation myself, and even went and looked at the X, but I can't convince myself to make the jump. Mostly because I've got the STI perfected (Recaros, Bilsteins, etc), and going back to a bone stock X would be a downgrade. I'm sick of blowing money on a car just to make it what I want, so now that I've got it dialed in, I'm staying with it for a while longer. I've also only got 44K miles, so it's just broken in...
Again, congrats on the new toy. GG is exactly what I would get, too. Sweet car.

Thank you for the review/comparison. 0-60 in under 5 seconds, huh? That's fast.. What's the quarter mile like? Congratulations on the car!
