Evo X steering wheel observation
I had an opportunity to sit in an Evo X this weekend. I noticed that the steering wheel is unusually far from the driver; I had to extend my arms more than usual to reach it comfortably. I once had an S2000. In that car the steering wheel is practically on your lap, which I like.
I'm 6'2" and didn't notice this in the IX I test drove. I was curious to see what other people think of the location of the steering wheel. I have the same criticism with my '02 Si but it seems worse in the Evo X.
BTW: I think the Recaros in the X are the best damn sport seats I have ever had the pleasure of sliding my *** in. Man, they are sweet. I also really like the steering wheel. (Did I mention that I wished it was closer?).

Yeah i kinda noticed the same thing. because my legs are bent more than normal(or in other words I am really close to the pedals) but i dont really have a choice because the steering wheel is so far away.
I have gone back and forth from my X to VIII several times to feel what I like better about both, and I totally agree with everything you said. It has a nice feel, but it a little too far away. I also wish the grips were a little fatter like they are on my VIII.
The steering feel in the X is much better, but the feel of the actual wheel and its position is better in the old car IMO.

I had the same thoughts about the distance to the steering wheel. If I slide the seat so that my knees are in the steering column, and I tilt the seat so that I'm tilting forward toward the steering wheel, then i'm just too far away from the damn thing... oh wait... :-/
I guess they are trying to promote proper driving position and all that stuff, but its just wrong for me... I still love the car though (except the seats...i hated the IX seats, and i hate the X seats), so i guess i'll deal. The handling has me smiling more than our IX did whenever I drive it...its definately a keeper, regardless.

When I first got in one I moved the seat all the way back as I do when I first get in every car (because I'm tallish). I found myself a little too far from the steering wheel and scooted up a bit. I remember remarking that it was the first time I had needed to do so.
But anyway, I think that's a good thing.
