I sell cars all day for below invoice.... what a Honda Ridgeline? I'll do $5000 BELOW invoice with rebates.... but if they truly are selling EVo's for $400 losses then I dont understand that and wonder how they are gaining that back.... finance, add-ons etc...

and as a dealer you cannot "negociate" invoice with the manufacter for whomever said that... lol

If they get 10 evo's a week then maybe they are taking losses to get rid of them...Im doing $500 over invoice on mine and I think thats a pretty fair deal with no hidden charges, cash or finance

Its a great deal if you buying from them and I guess its a different ball game in the west coast vs east coast... but its cool so many people are getting good deals
you are right, perfectly unfair the price difference between the west coast and the east.

I have one thing to say about the east coast, the savings you get buying houses, we CALI are seriosly on the negative. CAli house ave 600,000 for 2000 sqft. East coast 350,000 2000 sq ft. I wished that I could complain about the housing here but I can't when I see sun every day.

By the way, if I lived in Maryland, I would buy from Shahul X for sure. Since I don't, I will just buy from Sam. Shahul speaks honestly in his choice of words.

Customers like you **** me off beyond belief. It doesn't matter what the dealer pays for the car, what matters is what you pay. I understand everyone wants a GREAT deal. But do you understand how you effect things when you nego. to a nothing deal. The dealer makes less money, the salesman makes almost nothing, i'm sure you understand the side effects of that. So slowly all these customers paying invoice or under which is insane are ruining the economy. The customer isn't getting raped if they pay profit.

So here is my advice if your purchasing a new car and you would like to get a good deal and let the dealer/saleman make a fair profit. I do this with almost 70% of my customers.
When shopping for a car ask to see the invoice price. Take the MSRP minus the invoice, thats the gross. Divide the gross then add to the invoice. Thats the price you pay. That's the fairest way for both parties.
Wow. So let's see. I bought a car for the ADVERTISED price, with no negotiation, and paid cash, but I'm the kind of customer who pisses you off? LOL. What, should the buyer offer to pay MORE than advertised? Maybe I can fill out all your paperwork also just in case your fingers are tired and you don't want to hold the pen? Get real. If you're worried about not making a living, maybe it's time for a different job.

Here's the ad, and they are still selling them for that same price.

Negotiating a price is a business transaction. I'm not going to be rude or impolite, but I not out to be friends either. I'm not inviting the sales guy over for dinner, and he's not inviting me either. The goal for both parties is to make the best deal possible with which both parties find the transaction criteria acceptable. If the buyer negotiated a better price than the seller, and the seller is unhappy, then why did the seller sell?

Ignore all the morons in here Bruno. You make good points, but Americans are about self-benefit. Step on others to get ahead. No brotherhood in this country.
So how many other countries have you been to that gives you the idea that people here are any different than anywhere else? I've spent years of my life in Malaysia and Mexico. People aren't any different there than they are here. I've spent months of my life in other Asian countries, and still, people there are no different than here. Usually they are more family oriented, but none will pay more for a product just because they want the salesman to like them. What you described is human nature.

The days of sleazy car salesmen that rip you off are gone. With the introduction of the internet, invoice pricing available to public, kbb, edmunds, yahoo, msn, nada, their is no way to rip off the costumer or be dishonest.
How about when the buyer and the dealer negotiates a deal, and then the dealer gives the buyer the sign now pressure play. I bought a Mazda 5 for my wife last year. The first dealer gave me the "better not think about it overnight because we probably won't be able to give you the same for your trade in tomorrow" situation. Then they wouldn't give me the keys back to my car when we finally had enough negotiating with them. I finally got the keys back by threatening to call the police. Then again, a month ago, when I went to the LOCAL dealer to buy a new Evo, I got the similar situation. "Oh you better buy this now because it will be gone by this weekend". Then it was "oh no, we don't negotiate on price, this car will be gone by the weekend". Then two weeks later when they called me back it was "if you come in tomorrow we'll sell it to you for the price you wanted", but when I actually got there the next day they said "oh no, the best we can do is $300 under MSRP." Two of the four local Raleigh dealers I've visited in the last year were sleaze *****, and I would be suprised if less than half of all dealers were not sleaze *****.

I understand what holdback is, but I wasn't talking about holdbacks in my first post. I was talking about buying power and economies of scale. The following numbers are all made up for the example. For example, if South Coast buys 100k new cars from Mitsubishi each year, they have alot more negotiating power than the small town dealer than buys 5k cars from Mitsubishi each year. This allows them to negotiate pricing, and they can buy for less than invoice. It's like this in every industry. If a big dealer who can sell that volume, it allows the manufacturing facility to run at higher capacity and throughput, which pushes the cost of the product down. Again, it's like this in every industry, from cars to cell phones to grocery stores.

Here's the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese example. How much can you buy Kraft Mac and Cheese for at Super Wal Mart? Like 69 cents? At the local Food Lion grocery store, it's like 99 cents. Well how does Super Wal Mart sell it for 30% less than Food Lion? It's because Super Wal Mart probably buys several billion dollars worth of product from Kraft each year, and Food Lion may only buy a couple hundred million dollars worth. Wal Mart becomes the driver that allows Kraft to run thier production lines at 100% capacity, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Wal Mart would also allow Kraft to drive down costs through things like just in time production, streamlined logistics, and lean manufacturing. Wal Mart also becomes the clearing house for all the stuff Kraft overproduces, or if a different vendor cancels an order, etc. For this reason Kraft would give Wal Mart much better pricing than anyone else. This of course is an example, I don't work for Kraft or Wal Mart or Food Lion, but it's how all manufacturing companies run, including the one I do work for.
