SES light for routine maintenance?

For those of you with an X who have put on some miles on it (5k+) does the Evo X throw a Service Engine Soon light every 5K miles when it's time for an oil change? My mom's Acura seems to do this as does my coworker's Lexus and it seems the only way to turn that off it to take it to the dealer.

I currently do all the routine maintenance on my STi and plan to do the same when I get my new Evo in a few months and I just want to make sure I won't get an annoying SES light every 5k miles that I need to take to the dealer to get them to turn off.

Thanks!

Are you sure its not a maintenance light thats coming on? SES lights ususally throw a code but maintenance lights just tell you its time to service your car but have no detrimental effects.

On my mom's car it's just the car's way of saying that it's due for service. There has never been a code on my mom's car, and takes her car in to the dealer for service and they shut off the SES light.

It doesnt throw a service engine soon light every 5 thousand miles. It just tells you it is time to change the oil. it also tells you in the owners manuel how to reset it. With me I dont use that at all. If you have navigation there is an option in there that allows you setup oil changes and a whole mess of other things depending on time and miles. things such as oil changes, air filter changes, tire rotations, and other things also

Just the info I needed. THANKS!

I was thinking the SES light had merged the CEL and a 'maintenance due' light into one. Glad to hear it's in a different spot and you can reset it.

Also kind of cool you can set the service stuff in the Navi unit.

Service reminders just come up on the MID, which is the orange screen in between the tach and speedo.

Yep, hold the "info" button on the service menu for 5 seconds to reset it. Though it resets it to 8200 miles for some reason for me

I got both at 4,000 miles. Maintenance light on the MID and the Service Engine Soon light. I changed the oil, updated the info in the NAV unit, and the SES light went away. I'm going to go reset the MID now. I didn't know that you just hold it in. Thanks!

What happens when you change the oil earlier than the interval, can you reset it?
