Rain and hood vents?!
I drive around with a custom car cover that has clear parts for the windows so i can see out ... the only real problem i have is getting in and out of the car ... I don't mind because its my car but my dates don't like the idea of having to crawl under the cover to get in and out
I think this brings up a valid concern, because if you look at how the hood is sloped down into the vent all the water would be funneled right over the CAI. I dont own a Evo X yet but by looking at some of the pics it looks like where the CAI would be placed is exactly where all the water would be funneled in. I'm sure there are many on here who have CAI that drive it in the rain/snow though. Just wondering if there are any people that are awesome at photoshop that can kind of show a invisible area over where the vent would be with a CAI. I suck at these things or i would try haha.
Yeah don't worry about it. You southern california people are a little crazy. I guess when you only see rain a few times a year. I have two friends that live in san diego, and we were out driving on the interstate when it started to sprinkle.. Yes sprinkle, and the traffic went from 75-80, to 35-40. Not even joking, it was really funny.
Anyhow water can get in the engine no problem. Even if you have a cold air intake with no tune..

Unless the air filter is submerged in water you have nothing to worry about. Getting some water/moisture drawn through the intake tract will just clean things out a bit for you. Hell, some people even purposefully inject water (or alcohol) into their engines as a knock retardant.
you're serious? you duct tape your hood vents? you do realize people inject water on purpose for better performance right? think of it as free water injection, i mean you will suck up an maximum a few drops of water, if they even get past thru the filter then then what ever water is there will then be vaporized by the turbo...so i don't see the issue.
although you don't have to completely submerge an air filter for it to suck up enough water to damage your car you do need alot of water in or around the filter. driving through deep puddles or flooded curbside drains will do it. rain won't do a thing. don't bother with the tape you are making yourself look like a paranoid dumbass. the filter should be right above the doorjam so just stay away from flooded areas that are deep enough to creep into the cabin and you're golden.
