intercooler mount brackets

Has anybody else changed out the heavy stock ic bracket with aluminum brackets. I am making ic pipes and fitting a custom ic right now and that stock bracket is thick steel with some sort of weight mounted on the bracket. Once I get finished with the mods, I will get some pics up. Nice chunk of weight savings I haven't heard spoke of yet!!!

Yes good find indeed! Although what do you mean there's a weight in the bracket? What that a typo and you meant that it's got some weight to it, as in it's surprisingly heavy? Or do you mean that there's actually some kind of weight for balancing or something? I can't imagine that there'd be any need for a balancing system for a simple mounting bracket, but I figured I'd clarify just in case.

here some pics of the stock lower IC mount bracket. Notice the weight there. Balance weight? mitsubishi ingenuity? I am not seeing a reason to keep it, so I made up some aluminum mounting brackets.

Where are the companies at to jump on making some lightweight brackets!!

Stamped pre plate steel with a coat of paint = cheapest possible solution for Mitsubishi production.

I'm going to look at mine this weekend. Is it on the bottom of the intercooler?

Also, if you look at the back of the car, there are a bunch of thick steel brackets holding the active handling hydraulic components in position outside the frame rails, on each side of the OEM muffler. That's more weight reduction potential, although it's not really the low hanging fruit. Proabably the hydraulics add 100+ lbs on thier own, but I bet we can argue it's still quicker around a road course with the extra hydraulic system weight.

How about a DIY How-To guide...anyone ? I'm interested in replacing that IC bracket if I ever replace my IC. Did you get your parts from Home Depot or something?
