Another Evo X mini review
Just thought I'd post my thoughts after 4 days of ownership now. As you can see by my join date I've been a evo enthusiast for a long time now. I jumped ship a couple years ago when I sold my 8, and went American (big mistake). Recently I ordered a new BMW e92 M3, but due to the weak resell market, it was a lot harder to get out of my vehicle, and decided it wouldn't be worth the $65k hit I was going to take on the m3.
So I drove a couple 335i's and 135i's as I really thought German was the way to go this time. I was looking for a performance vehicle with a little refinement. I originally dismissed the X as a lot of the intial posts on this forum and others were negative, saying it was just a heavier, slower evo (I was reading back in January when I was plotting the cars I would look at). But thankfully I checked back more recently, and pretty much everything was positive, so I decided to drive all 3 of my choices back to back. I drove the 335i first, and honestly if they had one in stock that had the options that I wanted (really just wanted a base model, all of them in stock were loaded, or with retarded options I would never need/want/pay extra for) I would have bought when there. The car handled great (but after driving the X, there is no comparison, the X handles better), had a great engine and looked beautiful. Thank god they didn't, because after the 135i (which I couldn't stand to look at unfortunately, especially compaired to the 335i) I went and drove the X.
They had a demo vehicle at the dealership I went to, so the salesman had no problem with me opening up the X, and we do have some nice roads around the dealership. Needless to say when we got back after the test drive I was completely sold on the X. And 4 days later I am still in awe on how awesome the car is. The ride when cruising is great, not quite as refined as the bimmer's, but it is not near as harsh as my 8 was. The car is extremely quiet when idling, and even under acceleration the noise was not as loud as my 8.
But what really amazes me about this car is the handling. I took it for some really hard mountain driving today, and it just devoured corners at incredible speeds. In the 8 on these roads I was able to push hard, but not near as close to the speeds I was able too on the X today. I've driven these roads on an s2k and z aswell and I woudln't even attempt to go the speed I was doing today.
It also looks amazing, I remember when we saw the initial spy shots I thought it was very ugly and looked too much like a regular lancer. But seeing it in person, it is way more mean looking, and has great lines.
Anyways, can't wait to start modding. If you are on the fence about this vehicle, trust me you will be happy.
TLDR;
Vehicle is awesome, buy one.

I think many do tend to dismiss the X as a "heavier, slower" Evo...but honestly many of those naysayers never drive the car. I kinda went through the same process you did...sold my 8...bought a 350Z...and missed my 8 so much I had to go back.
Glad to see you're enjoying it.

People just like to focus on the negatives and that's all they come up with.....heavier and slower. They forget to realize all the positives GREATLY outweigh the negatives. And now the 4B11 is surprising everyone, it seems to be an even better car than we thought.
Thanks for the writeup. I didn't even bother wasting my time test driving other cars as I knew I would wind up with an X anyway.

I had an '07 STi and when i took in for the second oil change I looked over at the Mitsubishi dealership and thought to myself I should go test drive the X. (I was looking at the X when I bought the STi, but didn't want to wait for it to come out after reading a lot of negative hype.) Needless to say that the first test drive was all it took. After that i haggled with them for a week or so, got a killer deal and have been loving my car ever since.
Note: STi doesn't compare to the EVO as far as handling in my opinion. The same turns that I would feel sketchy about taking at 70 in the STi i'm hittin at 80 in the X like that was nothin.
