6/28 Racing Pics - SCCA Nat Tour
I was excited to participate in my first SCCA National Tour event this weekend in Peru, IN. I just started auto x a little less than a year ago and I'm hooked. I had fun in my VIII, and I am enjoying my X a lot. The car handles well, and it is kinda neat to show up in a car that no one is used to seeing. This car gets a ton of attention and people are pretty interested to see how it performs. When I drive it well, it is very competitive despite being heavy by 400 lbs with me in the car.
Thursday night I was looking at the weather and trying to decide if I would take my trailer or not. If it was going to rain all weekend, it sure would be nice to have a place for my friends and me to stay dry. Though, it was only a 2 hour trip and I usually just drive my car to events. Not to mention $50 in fuel vs. $120 in the truck. So Friday night I loaded the car, my tools, and a big cooler into the trailer and headed up. Saturday, I was very glad that I decided to take the trailer...not just for the rain, but so that I didn't have to leave my car there
This is a pictorial representation of how exciting my weekend was.

Broken Gas Pedal #3 @ 4,280 miles

The first 2 times this has happened (exact same break point) I let out a string of curse words that would make anyone cringe. This time I was rounding a sweeper at partial throttle and as I went to WOT it snapped...I had to laugh and hang my head in shame. What a joke
To add to the humor, I heard the SCCA announcer come over the radio as I pulled off, "It looks like Luke broke his gas pedal" Being that I don't know who it was and have never met anyone with SCCA, I thought that was great that he guessed it

This is where she sat most of the weekend. How fun.

Results:
Dead last and my worst driving in 20 events, turned 4200 miles on my car, 3 broken pedals, 3 ruined events, and a 6 pack of cold ones to ease the heartache.
Thanks to SCCA for the great event and organization, Nick Myers for letting me finish the event in his EVO VIII, and my STU competitors for the good humor and putting up with me all weekend
Maybe at the next one I will show up to drive as well
Sorry if you were looking for pictures of the car actually driving. Suprisingly, this great car is completely worthless in this application without an accelerator.

WOW!
something is SERIOUSLY wrong here, i don't care how hard you hit the gas pedal or how often you are at WOT..
it should NOT BREAK! PERIOD!
if this thread doesn't get mitsubishi's attention i don't know what will

I am pushing it too hard for the design...plain and simple. I don't think that is an acceptable design, but oh well. There won't be a plastic one going back on my car ever again.
I use my gas pedal as a stabilizing point when I drag my cobra and have broken it a few times (pushing too hard i suppose) but I get really tense..
I ended up doing exactly what was suggested above. got a new pedal (mines all metal, save for one spot that it breaks at) and I reinforced that bad chicken with JB weld.. haha
