Is this normal for the 4B11? When I lift my hood, all I hear is the clickity clack of the valves. Sounds like valve slap to me. Someone told me that it's typical of the MIVEC engines.

This is my first Mitsu so I have no idea what to expect. I have no SES and the car pulls hard.

Thoughts?

 

Prob injectors you are hearing

 

It is the injectors firing, they are loud.

Ummm, the 4b11 is not a DI motor, the Ecotec in the Sky Redline and the twin turbo six in the 335i etc are but not the 4b.

 

I seriously doubt it's the injectors. My car makes what sounds like a valvetrain noise, similar to the sound from an old solid roller cam engine with valve lash set real wide.

 

It's injector tick, nothing to worry about.

Evidently there aren't hydraulic lash adjusters on the 4b11 which makes it transmit more noise. It is a noisy engine for sure.

 

My Outlander does the same thing (as a V6 nonetheless), and my old RalliArt did it as well (Mazda too...but thats a strech to compare them). Mine does the same thing...most people when they walk up to it running with the hood open think its a POS.

yeah it sounds like a four cylinder that's had a hard life if you don't know anything about engines. but considering it sounded the same as the day we drove it off the lot it is normal.

What are you talking about? Mitsubishi set out to make a fast car with a 2 liter turbo motor. Engine noise is probably the last thing they care about. This isn't a Lexus.
