It would be nice if they got rid of that ugly bumper accessory for the 09s and redid the price point given the failing economy, the price of the 135i and the par dollar. An EVO with a start price under 40K would make it much more attractive.

Right now It would be hard to get an Evo for 41,500 when you can get a 135i with sports package for 44,000. BMW also has a better interest rate and you can finance the 2000 chip as part of your initial purchase to give you a car with close to 400HP.

If I were to buy in Canada I would buy a 135i, just because BMW is not screwing Canadians as badly as Mitsubishi. But I think I'll buy in the US. I would like to get my hands on a warranty from Mitsubishi in the USA, but I believe that it is likely that they would have to honour the warranty if you took them to court.

You want to know about being screwed? Have you tried to get a US model BMW serviced in Calgary? As soon as you give them the VIN they immediately group you in as the lowest priority like making customers wait up to four months for even simple things like oil changes and forget about getting a courtesy car.

They do that to people that buy BMW's from them(both my dad and sis own BMW's). BMW calgary has a horrible reputation for customer service, and lets not forget the owner is a bag of douche.

I always thought it was illegal in Canada for dealers to price gouge? Not so anymore? I guess I've been out of country for awhile and things have changed...

It's not so much the dealers as it's Mitsushi Canada that sets the pricing and they clearly are out of touch with reality as there's no way they can justify charging us $10K more for an EVO when the Canadian dollar is essentially at par. Mazda is dropping their Canadian prices for 09 and other manufactures are falling in line, if Mitsubishi wants to sell EVO's up here they should get serious as they aren't flying off the lots in Calgary where BMW's are as common as Civics.

I was almost going to pull the trigger on a MR premium today.. then I did the math, With $24,000 down, 60month/84 month term financing, the car will end up being $59,900 or something for payments of $440/month.

Thats retarded... the sales manager was telling me he was giving me a deal... it was still $1000 over MSRP... lol. Oh well, my dreams of having an Evo are on hold now until Mitsubishi Canada pulls their head out of their ***.

The interest rate is quite ridiculous.

$24,000k down, just borrow a few more grand and buy from Southcoast.

Southside Mitsu! What a joke. They weren't too bad when I bought my lancer there 3.5 years ago. Once all the bosses' brothers started working there it really went to hell. Yeah Aaron is the guy to talk to, he's been there since the dealer opened.

I remember that even when they offered 0% financing up tp 5 yrs for all models, they wouldn't tell you about it (even though it was in big letters all over the window) and would write you down for +7% unless you asked.

Sales people know absolutely nothing about cars. They know about interest rates, payments, terms and conditions, sales strategies, inventory and quotas. If I applied to sell cars tomorrow I wouldn't get the job, because I have no experience SELLING things. All I would be able to do is answer questions properly and tell the consumer about the car, and what dealership wants to hire that kind of a sales person.

They want someone who's aggressive and will say/do anything to make the sale.
not all sales people know notthing about cars. but yes those are all sales tactics designed to intice your impulses to buy a car at a price above msrp and make a better commission. (I sold mitsus and nissans)

best thing to do is talk to the sales manager with your ideal set price in mind and be stern dont back down and be in control !

keep in mind these guys are trying to feed their familys so be reasonable with your offer. (this is still no excuse to plain rip people off though)
Id say (canadian msrp) +/- $2000cdn.

1000 over msrp in cdn is not unreasonable if thats including destination. its not really a good deal but seems fair (again if that price reflects the destination charge) which most dealrships do pay for destination so in affect charge the customer.

now on the financing side try to get the loan from your own bank, with that much down you should have very little problem and get a reasonable apr (which makes for a good payment dependent on loan duration)

good luck.

I don't think its a good deal, especially when you can get one for 10k cheaper down south.

As has been said, the real problem up here is Mitsu Canada's detachment from reality.
With the (admittedly recent) harmonisation of the safety regs, and the current parity of the currencies, there really isn't any genuine excuse for a $10k markup over US prices. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the safety regs have been around for a while and whether or not Mitsu Canada will try to continue selling a different 'Canadianised' product unnecessarily just to try and justify a stupid markup.

As for the dealers, well they're a law unto themselves sometimes

At least with Mitsu we now have the option to buy from South of the border, unlike some of the domestic manufacturers who refuse to sell new cars from US dealers to us North of the border.
