MR vs. GSR ride quality for daily driving
In the hunt for a new car for the wife and she made some comments last night that got the gears turning.
She has four problems with my GSR:
1. trunk space
2. MPG
3. lumbar support
4. roughish ride for a DD
My responses:
1. take out the spare and sub when you NEED more trunk space, but it's actually quite adequate for normal use (as I'm finding out).
2. err... it's actually close to the 335i (according to fueleconomy.gov 17/22 vs. 17/26)3. lumbar pillow, $10, problem solved
4. MR with the softer suspension? Hence my question.
For those that have extensive seat time in the MR and GSR, does the MR drive smoother than the GSR from a daily driver perspective?
The price of the MR is smack in the middle of the two cars that are left in the running, G35/37 sedan and 335i coupe/sedan. However the GSR is a much more visceral driving experience than either... which is both a positive and a negative!

Honestly, I know this car are ment to be driven hard (it's an EVO) But daily driving that's is mixed 70% highway 30% City
I'm getting at lease 22-24 MPG
I baby the car too much probably and i'm trying to break in the first 600 miles...
How about the new A4?
When I drove it, I found it very easy to do 4 wheel drifts. The stability control was very forgiving.
It is quite a bit slower then either car you're considering, but no less fun to drive. Unfortunately, the V6 initially comes with only an auto.

Because you posted this....
Are you looking to go from a GSR to an MR or are you shopping for a second car for your wife? If its a second car then there's no need for another EVO.
If its money your are worried about selling your EVO10 to buy another EVO10 would be $$$ suicide.

[some stuff about what our concerns with the GSR are]

Why is there no need for a 2nd Evo? Not like she can drive mine when I'm driving it! Why should she be saddled with some underpowered FWD econobox while I'm driving the Evo?
I'm thinking a garage with a GSR and an MR is pretty good. Then again, a GSR and a 335i is pretty dang good... as is a GSR and a G37S Coupe (or sedan).
Money is important, but as long as the car is < $50k and makes my wife happy she can get whatever she ways (well almost, I do get overall veto power so no Acura or Honda).
In any case, we took a lunch trip to Don Herring and she test drove the MR. For anyone who's wondering the same thing as me, the MR on a test drive loop rides similarly to the GSR. When you push it it feels different. Of course the tranny feels different and she liked that to go up a gear (1->2->3), you pull the stick to you rather than push away like a lot of manu-matics out there.
Tough decisions... G35S sedan (6MT), EvoX MR, G37S coupe (6MT), 335i sedan, 335i coupe.
All great vehicles.
All $36-44k.
All 300+hp, 300tq
I think we'll likely punt this go around
I would say get the MR because ride is smoother and the SST tranny is amazing. I got the GSR and my Sis who lives with me has the MR. both looks good in the drive way and in the garage. Maintenance should also be good because when you change oil on one, you do on the other also because they use the same filters and fluids.
