I had the similiar problem with the reving issue. I haven't had as severe as your problem where it is dying but have seen a lot of the random reving and also low rpms almost to a stall in neutral. Check some of the other threads as it seems this is a common problem as the evo x stock runs rich. the other threads ironically say to get it tuned (maybe west coast tuners are better than east coast tuners) (uh oh I said it).

It was a very strange issue. I spent a good deal of time going thru many datalogs to calculate specific areas of airflow. You can't really see the spacer until you take it apart.
Bottom line is that the issue has been resolved and taught us quite a bit about looking over the work performed by others.
Talk to you soon Aaron

yeah, also have to say that the shop who installed the intake (not DTM) didn't tighten the bolts all the way, leading to air leaks.

whatever the case, thanks again nick

Glad this was resolved. When you modify your car it opens up the possibility of these things happening. That is why I never make a big deal of it personally and just try to remain calm and try to see if I can get to the bottom of it. I don't know how many times my intake hose on my VIII came off before I got it on there proper. I just keep a decent amount of tools in my car .

Step on the gas hard and then poof, no power .

Pull over, hope the clamp is still under the hood, reattach it, and tighten that thing down!

Hope you enjoy your tuned Evo X now, I know I am as I just got a tune myself !

Hey tomato..!! I'm having your EXACT same problem now! LoL!!!

Previously with HKS EVC6 boost controller, gruppeM ram air, Kakimoto regu06&R exhaust and ECUtek tune, the car ran perfect no matter how hard i rode her.

However, all that changed with my purchase and installation of a full set of Nisei Upper and Lower intercooler pipings + Intake pipe.

The car ran normal on low 1.2bar boost but at high 1.6bar boost, it gave me an engine check light... It then proceeded to idle at a fixed 2k scaring the **** out of me. I switched off the car, turned it back on and idle went back to normal but the check light stayed on..

It never got as bad as a limp mode for my case but judging from what's happened to you, I don't see that scenario very far away.

Would you recomand:

1) I take out the spacer, disconnect the battery (to remove the check light warning) and try driving around to test it out?

2) Check for boost leakage in my intake which could have caused the engine check light

3) Get the car down to a Mitsu dealer to pull out the codes

Try taking the spacer out, it's a quick check to see if that's your issue as well. Won't cost you anything as a good step in diagnosis.

it's the spacer bro. wow that's nuts. yeah... i haven't had a problem since the spacer was removed. so take it off, it's not supposed to be there after tuning the car from what the shop told me. sorry that happened, that little damn piece of metal causes so many problems

just removed the spacers, realigned the ram air (nisei LICP has the BOV underneath the airbox... had to cut the heat shield to make allowance)

gonna head out for a hard drive tonight, pray for no problems...
