Autocross Night

Hey all,

I am going to my second autocross Friday night, and I had a few questions:

What tire pressure do you run for an autocorss event?

Do you turn off all the traction controls, or just one?

Do you run in tarmac mode, or gravel? I only ask because I have read here that one may be faster than the other.

Thanks for all your feedback!

i run 35 PSI all the way around, keep checking them as they'll go up after your first run usually for maximum grip you want to keep them at 35 after each run, i'm not sure on traction control as i have an 8, and leave it on tarmac so it'll help it rotate better

Its pretty fun. I hear some of the other drivers saying its more laid back than a real event.

Tire Pressure:
Depends on the surface. We have one here where I run 50 PSI all around. Another where 38F/40R is good. Chalk the tire and see if you're rolling over.

Traction Controls:
I've done both full off and 1/2 off and had good results both ways. Experiment

Tarmac vs. Gravel:
I tend to run in Tarmac and it's faster, but I'm pretty aggressive and like to get the rear around like in a RWD vehicle...

Have fun and be safe... watch for glowing rotors!

A google search will show you how to read the tires.

You can chalk em (weak sauce) or you can pick up a IR heat gauge which is a pretty cool toy and isnt very expensive ( I think mine was like 50 bucks).

The X is a bit heavier than my IX but if I were winging it I would prolly start at 35-38lbs and add or remove from there....

Assuming you are making more than a single run, try all ACD modes and ASC modes and let us know your finding.

I run slicks on tracks, and when my slicks get greasy due to heat, I switch from tarmac to gravel. It helped me cut a whole second off. And the car is much faster with ASC completely off.

But my results are based on racing slicks, and upgraded suspension from Robi.

Good luck and have fun!!

I ran 50 PSI and STILL wasn't really able to get the rear to rotate. Here in Dallas we have one lot that we use that has a VERY rough concrete surface and everyone has to run some crazy high pressures in order to get any slip at all.

It's not like I'm running 50PSI for more than 5 minutes anyway.

And if you put it to 40PSI cold, when it's 105* out you'll be at 50 pretty darn quick!
