Because you made it a money decision. There is a thousand post thread about VIII/IX vs. the X.

Listen, I would not buy a VIII and get a loan on it. You'd be in a 5-6 year old car with no warranty.

Short list for you for the X vs. VIII/IX discussion:

Pros of the X:
- cruise control
- arguably better styling
- fastkey if you get the SSS
- bigger (if that matters)
- some say a better interior
- non-directional tires
- S-AYC (which was in non-USDM IX's)

Cons:
- heavier
- bigger
- slower in stock form
- "unknown" aluminum block engine
- smaller aftermarket
- no open source tuning available
- shorter warranty than the IX when new
- more expensive

Forgot to add that most people that have a VIII or IX actually test drive an X and they like it. Now they have spent lots of money and effort modding and tuning their current car, so it's hard for them to justify changing cars.

I'd say test drive the X and see if you like it

Just make sure that the X, if a GSR, has had the 2nd reflash. Most on the dealers lot have not. You can tell by looking for a sticker under the hood.

Also test drive an MR. They are more expensive, but at least try out the SS-T (which opens up a whole nuther can of worms).

I was offered a 2003 evo 8 gsr with 65k miles.. But They said I needa put more money down because of my trade in. Orrr they would put me in a new 09 evo X gsr and I would be paying roughly the same as I pay on my current car.
Yes I do have a little left on my current loan. But I have the money. Money isn't an issue. If it was I wouldn't be doin this.. I was only askin if you hada choose between the 2. I dunno y this is becoming a money discussion.
That is why it has become a money discussion. You wanted to get a used Evo 8 but were switched to a new Evo X GSR because they could not get you where you wanted to be on it. The used Evo 8 is a much better "investment" in that the huge depreciation hit has already been taken, and you should be able to get it at a decent price since there are so many out there used atm. I have driven all of the Evo's since they first came here in '03 but I did not buy one until the X came out. The previous generations felt too much like a damn base lancer pos with a 20k drivetrain to me. It's like night and day as far as livability compared to the X. But do what you want man, just make certain that it is the right decision for you.

Alot of people are 50.50 on what I should do. Some say the X is big and bulky and slow. I should get the 8. And others say who cares there willing to give u a new car..

I ammm searching and reading as I type it. Tomororw I am test driving both. I know which ever feels better go with. But as far as all you guys knowledge on evo's and what not. As far as performance goes. And what you can do. Which would be the better deal to get?? The 8 or the X??
its big but its just about as fast as a stock 9 and its new i wouldnt want a car with 65k mi when i could have a new car. you never know how that car was treated considering what it is i think you can guess.

I would definitely stear clear of the 03 8.

Just because this dealer has an 8 doesn't mean its the one for you. The decision is X or VIII or IX.

Find an 8 and or a 9 in good shape, with low miles, and drive it/them. See what you think. Based on what people have written in this thread you know what to expect as far as the differences.

If my AMS stroker SSL 2005 Evo 8 wasn't stolen I would still be driving it. I really liked that car a lot .... but I am over it and like my modded/tuned X now

Handles better. Rides smoother. Has nicer interior and cruise control.

The 4B11 so far is holding up really well. AMS has their X with all the boltons, a tune, and a prototype turbo kit. They run that car hard and pull the heads off every 1k miles or so to check the internals. So far not hint of an issue. So far it is making power than the older Evos with less $ invested.

But definitely get that 03 8 with 65k out of your head please! If you were to get an 8 you would want an 05 for sure! Personally I would get an IX if you decided to get an older style Evo.

The X is a bigger head turner too. So if you like attention.... X is the way
