Damage to Rear bumper/side panal...

I park in a very very busy college parking lot and after class this is what I see:

Hard too see from those pics because of crappy cell phone pics but the piece of bumper is pretty much stick out from the body... the other side is fine and the back bumper is fine too (no scratches).. How did this happen? and can I fit it back in or do I need to buy a new bumper

try pushing it back in, i think they use press fitting on the ends like they do on the front bumper, and get better pics

the bumper is plastic, it will not dent, just don't smack it with a hammer, use your hand and press firmly it should pop back in

mitsu would have voided your warranty if they saw that. because we all know it happened from racing backwards.

if its bad, they have to cut it out and weld in a new rear quarter panel

I think they would just replace the whole piece. It's an expensive part because it' so big since it wraps over the windows, but you would never want to cut and weld. My old civic got hit right in the rear quarter panel by some drunk redneck that wasnt paying attention, and they replaced the entire piece at the body shop. If it's real minor then they'll just use bondo, but I've never heard of cutting and welding.

you do realize that it is part of the body correct? how would they replace it without cutting out the old one and welding in a new one? its not uncommon to cut out a rear quarter panel and weld in a new one.
