This was calculated, based on the trip meter, not using the goofy display. I don't trust that thing as far as I could through it. MPG is something I have been fascinated with, as I spend about half my life in a car traveling for work. I have gotten over 28mpg in my Lincoln, and over 29 in my Magnum. I think the Evo will be better when it gets back from AMS, right now still on stock tune, which is pig rich. THe one pull I did showed ~9.0 AFR.

Been averaging 11.4 mpg in the city. Put an AEM intake only on the car and in the last two fill ups, I got 14.3mpg! The car stock just runs too rich which not only hurts mpg, but power.

wtf? I don't even get that when i accelerate fast. I get 19.5 mpg commuting 60 miles back and forth (30 each) cruising 65-70 mph and sometimes with random crazy acceleration to like 6k+ rpms
How long are your commutes, and are you getting those results off the display or manually calculating it?

While I to do not trust the read out mileage indicator (off by 1-2 mpg), travelling behind some slow traffic going 45 mph in 5th gear (not lugging it), I got the read out dislplay to 30.1 mpg. So, while impractical, getting off the accelerator does help a lot!

Later, Ken
AMS intake and exhaust
Iveytune (322 all around)

New MR owner here. I filled up on sunday and the odometer read 77 miles. I let the tank go as far as i can untill it started blinking asking for gas (today-thursday). Odometer reads 270 miles. So for the first tank i got 193 miles. about a 13.7 mpg with probably 80% normal mode, 20% sport. Second fill up im gonna leave it only normal mode and see what i get. Im really gonna try and granny mode this time.

Edit: mostly city driving.

Does it make a huge difference that its a brand new car? will it get better as time goes on? I dont mind if i get like 250 for the whole tank as thats what i was used to from my WRX. but like 190 is a pretty good drop off.

your STI has, what, a 17 gallon tank? The EVO 14.5 so it does not go as far per tank. I think the other issue is that there is no analog gas gauge which makes it harder to judge. I fill up around the time the last bar disappears but that usually ends up only being around 12 -12.5 gallons...so 2gallons left in the tank (even at 16 MPG over 30 miles).

For what it is worth, got 22.3 MPG in stop and go traffic today....Just don't gun it every time you leave the stop light.

I didnt think of it at the time but your right my 04 WRX had a 16 gallon tank. MR only 14. Plus when i looked at my receipt it said 11.5 gallons filled. So the dash definately starts beeping WAY early leaving over 2 gallons in the tank. So like between 200-250 for a whole tank sounds about right.

+1

the fuel numbers on cars these days are pretty accurate. up until like 2006 the numbers were bull, but i believe after the 2006 model EPA or some agency mandated that the Estimated MPG was closer to what the car would actually get in real world conditions.

i was told this by a bmw sales person when i was looking at x3's, in 2005 they have 5 speed tranny's in 2006 they went 6 speed and the epa jumped way up, then in 2007 the same transmission was in the car and the epa was back down to where the 06's were. i didn't ask him, he just voluntarily explained this when we were looking through them...
