The two cars are actually very close in most ways with the EVO actually having an aero, braking, suspension, electronics, etc advantage while the STI had a slight power advantage. The price should have been almost the same too.

The STI ate it's cat in the morning and then had clutch issues. Other than the bumper getting loose, the EVO had it's 1st trouble free day.

The STI gets almost no love at the shop while the EVO gets lots of love from a pro level engineer on a regular basis.

Ironically, every time these 2 cars have actually raced each other (other than this TV show) the STI has won. Most of that is prob driver but it shows that they are a lot closer than the show made it look like.

Cool video, as always it's great to see the two sides go head to head.

umm... STI was running cat-less and wasnt dialed in tune wise.. also had some clutch issues causing launch... do you really think an EVO w/ 70 less whp / torque and which weighs in at about 300lbs more than the suby is going to be better at a 0-100 run? come now...

If you read the IWSTI thread, the HM guys tell us that this EVO and STI were supposed to be neck and neck if running @ 100%. Granted the EVO was quicker around the track than the suby - expected, I would expect the subaru to go faster in the dig -100 race... which it absolutely didnt...

We need HM to get a good driver and re-do this for the real Evo and STI fans.. not some crap they put together for some TV show...

The reason most people debate between the 2 cars is because they are comparable... sure the evo's area under the curve looks nicer than the STI's but at the end of the day... that race did feel a little too good to be true for Evo X owners no?

This test is suspect and I'm sure we would all be *****ing if it were the other way around but 26 more hp and 101 more lb ft of torque isn't "slight" in any language you try to place it in. That and costing 13k less means the evo won this time: P Oh and Sam H is a great driver, I'm not saying we're debating that I'm just giving the man his props.

Let's not forget that the EVO only had an exhaust, intake, and UICP + a reflash. The suby had all that PLUS A TURBO upgrade and it still lost. The EVO makes more power mod for mod, period. I used to own an STi before I got my X and in IMO the EVO is far superior. The STi makes lots of torque down low, but it piddles off quick and there is no power in the top end. Even with a turbo upgrade, the area under the curve isn't as good as the EVO because the cylinder heads suck, and the turbo manifold design is terrible because of the layout of the engine and crappy placement of the turbo. What you end up with is a car that is laggier than the EVO despite it's .5 liter advantage, and it can't rev anywhere near as high as the EVO so by the time the power really develops you have to shift. I rode in this guy's STi with a GT35 (making mid 400whp on pump gas on a dyno dynamics) the last time I was at my local shop, and it was a perfect example of what I'm talking about. This is where the EVO really kills the STi.

Who is this pro engineer you speak of? Just curious, as I know everyone at the shop. Actually, I was there tonight
