My X is completely DEAD!

So long story. Had the battery die out a little while ago. Idling has been VERY rough recently.

Today drove the car to a buddy's house and parked it. FAST key wouldnt let me lock the car so I figured there was something wrong with the transmitter. Locked the car using the metal key, made sure all interior lights were off and went up to have dinner. Came back out 3 hours later and the car wont start with the manual key. LCD in center of cluster gauge, NAV, etc, works. Car just wont crank. Lights on spedo and tach go out when I try and crank the car.

Call roadside to help jump car. They say 55 mins plus. I saw whatever. The guy calls me and says he is 40 mins away and is leaving now (I am thinking in my head, WTF why couldnt they get someone local). This guy arrives in a beat up 1970-something with TWO kids in the back seat smoking a cigarette! He cant figure out how to get the cover off the front jump point so I pulled it off for him, almost breaking it (its very hard to get off) Car wont start still after jump (he is using one of those big heavy battery pack things). Then I call Mitsu back (at 2 AM) and they say it will take another hour, i said WTF, why cant you find someone local? They say its standard. I tell them to shove it. Call someone to pick me up, we try and jump the car again and its still dead. Left the car where it was and will deal with it in the AM.

I could hear something happening when I tried to turn it on (hoping it wasnt dumping fuel into the engine). Any ideas?

The fast key has a immobilizer built in. If that key dies, then the immobilizer activates and then your car will be dead whether you have the manual key or not.

There is another thread with a person in the same situation. Let me look it up. Btw, good to see an Indian evo owner in Jersey.

They have a solution in that thread. Try some of their ideas using the F.A.S.T. Key. Hopefully you'll get it to start. I don't see it being a mechanical issue or any issue with the battery itself at this point.

Sounds like for whatever reason, your battery has taken a dump, and isn't gonna come back. A rough idle can be indicative of this, because the ignition just isn't getting enough juice. Did you replace it after the first time? If it is the battery, you probably have something draining it when the car's turned off. I'd first get a new battery(looks like it's well beyond simply accepting a full charge),and then have someone test for a drain on your electrical system

Thanks for the link! I had no clue that you had to use the metal key like that. I was just using the metal key! Dammit, i wish i wasnt home now. Oh well I guess ill go in the AM to try that.

I dont think the battery is completely shot. My nav and everything was working fine.

not to talk like i am an expert considering i just learned this but maybe the rough idle was from losing power and the ecu relearning the idle.

I realized it was also parked in your buddy's place. anyway, they will replace the battery(dealer) for sure. I think it is $300 just for the battery out of pocket

that would be awesome if they replaced the batter with something better. If they replace it with another panasonic, I will order something aftermarket the same day.

PSA: If you have a blackberry bold, dont put it in the same pocket as your FAST key :P
