dont worry about it if your #1 concern is horsepower... the a/c automatically cuts out when your WOT anyways.

This is for the reason I mentioned above (AC dries out the air which prevent fogging). last night it was 33 degrees and the car was parked outside for several hours. I have everything on automatic with the temperature set to ~73. I turn on the car and the AC is on.

He wants his car to function the way you mention. However, that is not the default and should not be the default.
This guy is right. Even though it is anoying, its probaly doing what its supose to do.

OT... which reminds me; now that its cold and i have frost on the windows... the vents dont catch the bottom corners of the front window very well :-/

i really don't have this issue/experience.

i have everything out of auto and the vents set to circulate the air from the outside and the snowflake do not come on even at 65. i think the real main thing is if the vent is set to circulate air from outside or within the car.

The main problem is that you're running the AC and wasting gas. If the conditions are right for fogging, I'll start to fog up my car 2 or maybe 3 times over the course of the 5hr drive to visit my parents. The AC would run that whole time if the I let it, or I could run it for 5 minutes or less a couple times. Obviously, it's intended for people who don't understand how AC works and can help when a car fogs up. This is admirable, but you can do a better job manually.

Fortunately, as others have mentioned, it can be bypassed.

Any ideas?

My Lexus GS430 does it too by default in fully auto mode. It keeps the windows from fogging. I usually manually override it and turn the A/C off. Occasionally, depending on temperature and humidity the windows will fog, so I put it back on auto mode and they clear instantly.

So I'd say Mitsu did this by design.
