The costcos all around me (in the OC) haven't stocked 5W-30 for awhile, but there's plenty of 10W-30

Quote: German Castrol? Does it have like German writing on it?
Pepboys was running a Pennzoil special ... $25 for 5 qts of their full synthetic and a filter.
Case of Mobil 1 ran me $41 ... K&N filter $11.
It says Castrol Syntec OW30 - European Formula. On the back, make sure it says "MADE IN GERMANY". Available at pretty much all autozone.

Real synthetic unlike Mobil-1 and the rest of Castrol's line.

I don't understand. Mobile One (and all full-synthetic oils) do not contain any petroleum products. At least that is what I have always understood.

If so, why would the hurricanes in the petroleum producing states effect the production of a motor oil that does not contain any petroleum?

That's because Mobile one isn't made from all synthetic materials. So technically it isn't fully synthetic.

Thats ****ty, but then again, that test was almost 4 years ago. Hopefully they've made some improvements since then. I hope.

Quote: If I were to switch from Mobil 1 it would be for Castrol Syntec. Redline and Amsoil are good too, but much more expensive. I don't even think Mobil 1 is that good anymore (especially after it lost its lawsuit against Castrol) but I'm still using it just because it was the factory fill and its all the car has ever gotten.

C'mon Chris.... I would think that you would want to use a True Synthetic instead of a Hydro-Crack .... That's it... Send my Air filter back !!!! LOL

Quote: Quakerstate! is by far my fav oil
QuakerSludge ???? LOL

The Mobil 1 Shortage is not over but it is lessening as they are bringing Stock in from Overseas.

It seems to be really expensive right now. A month or two ago i got it on sale for $26 5 quarts and filter!! Today I went and got more and it was $55!?!?!?! Bad new is I am going to change my oil more now because I am afraid of the fuel dilution problem in our oil.

Sounds like the difference between Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 EP also the effect of bringing it in from overseas

1 Gallon of AMSOIL ATM 10W-30
1 Qt of ATM
1 AMSOIL EAO-46 Filter $57.10

Change the filter to a WIX.... $47.95

Those prices are delivered but you still have to add tax .

They do not reflect my Rebate either

I recently did my oil change right before thanksgiving and of the two walmarts I usually go to, neither had mobil 1 5W-30. One only had one jug of 10W-30 EP which I quickly snatched...and the other only had two jugs of the same. I haven't cared to look since but we too were having a similar shortage.
