Exclamation THERE WILL be a 2009 EVOLUTION. Period.

I just called MMNA (again). The first time a month ago, they said YES, there WILL be a 2009, with production for the 2009 Lancer Evolution MR's coming for America slated to begin in April.

I called this morning after reading two threads of Tom foolery about no 09s, and when I called, Mitsubishi knows the economy and late launch of the 2008 Evolution equals some still sitting on the lot. The associate told me "We have been instructed to refer you to ask your local dealer."

TRANSLATION: "Go down and talk to your dealer, where hopefully they can A) Convince you to buy one of the 08s, or B) At the dealer's choice, they could additionally tell you 'NO 09s' in order for you to buy an 08.

I pointed out that after speaking with two local dealers who didn't know, that they told me to call corporate. At which point she checked with her manager, who replied, "We have no updates at this time, but YES THERE WILL BE a 2009."

Don't you get it? There will be a 2009, but they simply don't want to say it yet; they want to sell their 2008s first.

So go buy an 08 at a great deal so we can get the 09s soon enough.

Until new information, I hope this ends the "sky is falling" mentality of some people. There will be a 2009 Evolution!

Thanks Mitsubishi!

I wonder if the 2009 Evo X has been delayed because of the new 2009 WRX. The new WRX provides similar acceleration (some magazines say it's faster) than the Evo X for about $10k less. Now, it doesn't handle like an Evo X, but to get similar acceleration is a pretty good bang for the buck. You also have to think that Subaru is going to come out with a much faster STI...they almost have to. They can't go out to market with an STI that is slower than the WRX.

So, I wonder if Mitsu was caught off-guard by Subaru's move with the WRX (and potential move(s) with the 2009 STI). I feel like they've been feverishly working to bump up HP and TQ in the 2009 Evo X so that it will handily blow away the new WRX and STI.

This competition between the Mitsu and Subaru will only mean better (faster) cars for all of us!

What do you guys think?
You know what, I was thinking the same thing too. I know so many 2008 STI owners that are pissed off (as well as 2008 WRX buyers) because the WRX is faster than the STI. Now that you mentioned that it may be faster than the EVO X, I'm kinda pissed off too

I did hear that the new WRX are blowing engines though (from a Subie repair shop), because Subie just took the STI's turbo and put it in the WRX to get that power without updating the rest of the internals thus causing it to blow.

That's not why the WRX engines are failing. They have a bearing issue that could be similar to the same on they had last year with the 08 stop sell. The cars are spinning rod bearings during break in and most of the failures are before the car rolls up 3000 miles.

This is exactly what I got from Southcoast's post. It seems like this is just one big sales ploy to raise the prices for a bit until the 09's come out.

It's not faster than either the STI or Evo X. Show me where an 09 WRX was run against an 08 STI and an 08 Evo X on the same day, in the same conditions, and was proven to be faster. Then, throw some turns into the mix.

Sure, it'll probably close, the WRX will definitely not NOT be faster.

There are TONs of 08's on the lots, and will be whenever the 2009's arrive. Wouldn't make any sense to be offering the 09's with no interest the same time they are offering 08's with no interest. Only time will tell, and maybe a large rebate to dealers will be offered to move the 2008 models. That said, I can all but promise the 2009 models will not come out of the gates with no interest financing

There was a C&D test where the WRX posted some really awesome numbers that were better than a lot of (but not all) publications' test results:

0-60 mph: 4.7 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.5 seconds @ 102 mph

Pretty decent, and still quicker than a lot of magazine tests of Evo Xs and STIs.

Uhhhhh...sorry!

I just spoke to Frank at Anaheim Mitsubishi and I asked him when the 09's are coming in. He was unaware of the 09 listing on the website and said he'd call me back.

20 minutes later he calls and says there will be no 09's and the 2010 model will be announced sometime soon.

I just don't know what else you people need to hear. It's either true or a massive lie by most dealers, including my friend who works for one.

At this point it looks pretty certain that there will be no 09 X. And dealers are on drugs if they think people will pay anything close to invoice for an 08.
