Not even 500 Miles :(
yep i jus barely hit 500 miles in my evo X and the power steering is already all messed up, and i didnt even beat on it, The steering wheel is strugglin to turn, It makes so much noise seems to be from the rack, and a bubbling noise which appears to be from behind the steering wheel..
i have NO luck with
damn I love this car but here goes another troublesome one. Back to the dealer 2morrow

you didn't beat on it? didn't you do donuts on the car and it made this noise? i think doing donuts is considered beating on the car lol. . . . did you check the power steering fluid level?

Yea, but snow donuts really aint beating on it.... kept it under 5k, not like i was doing regular donuts which takes more of a beating to the engine. In the snow its just like slipping n sliding.... Also, I bought this vechile to enjoy it, Im not beatin the crap out of it ....... Yet. However, I know it should be able to hand way more than what im throwing at it. Such a big problem in such a short amount of time... Im bummed
and yea the power steering fluid is full... but it sounds like theres a leak in a hose behind the wheel or sumthing, I dunno
guess ill bring her back 2morrow

sounds like the spacers are in between your springs. Take a flashlight and shine in there, you should see black rubber stopper things in between the springs. Each wheel has two of them, one in the front, the other in the back. Jack the car up enough to get the wheels off the ground, pop em out, and no more rubbing noise.
edit: re-read the OP and i kinda doubt the rubber spacers is the issue now. Well either way, doesn't hurt to check.

Did you hold the wheel at FULL LOCK while doing the donuts? You could have blown the PS motor that way.
i wouldn't consider snow doughnuts to be beating on a car at all. i've done those in every non-sports car i've owned. from a 91 cutlass cierra to a 93 mazda 626 to a 05 hyndai sante fe and never any problems. also if he actually kept it under 5k on the tach then he'd still be following the break in rules
This is a joke right?
You pull donuts and you claim thats not beating on the car? With only 500 miles? I know general break in rules for the 4G63 based evos was keep the revs below 3500rpm for the first few thousand miles.
I guarantee this guy had the wheel at full lock for an extended period of time, and damaged the power steering pump in the process. Or he could have been hammering the wheel back and forth banging off the end stops.
Either way, its crap like this that causes Mitsu to be so picky when it comes to warranty claims.

Holding your steering at full lock for extended amounts of time will screw with your power steering, it says in the manual (Evo IX owner's manual). On my previous car, the manual said that leaving it at full lock for more than 15 seconds will damage the power steering system.
