what is this banging sound coming from

well when I am driving my X hard I her a real loud slamming sound coming from the middle-back of the car. I have jacked it up and looked under neath of it and an not see any place where it is hitting. It almost seems like a rear wheel drive car that has a broken trans mount and when you shift real hard then it slams like crazy. Dont know but would love to so any help would be great thanks guys

Does it only happen when you let the clutch out quick after a fast shift? That's the torque/engine load being transfered through the clutch into the drivetrain parts.

On a 2WD car, that force will go through the drivetrain and chirp the tires. There's so much grip in an AWD car that instead of breaking the tires loose, the force is absorbed by the drivetrain itself. Too much of that and something will break eventually.

When you're driving it hard, shift and let the clutch out just a little slower and there won't be any slamming.

Yeah as the previous poster mentioned, it's letting go too quickly.

I don't do it intentionally but it happens occasionally.

(Oh and in the rain I chirped instead ^^)

It's the heavy awd coupled with a pretty big car being strung along with a pretty light flywheel.

Play in the driveshaft or rear differential.
