I bought my 06 evo IX for 26k in 2006.... then I sold it for 27k at the end of 2007...

EVO IX are hard to find in general so I can see why their prices stay high..

Don't even think about it.

If you were happy and satisfied with your purchase when you first bought your car, then why care "what if" you got one for less.

Prices on cars are ALWAYS going to drop, cars depreciate, that's just how it is. The terrible economy just helped speed up the price decline.

Take it as a lesson learned, when you buy a car when it is first released you are bound to pay the premium. And if you paid attention to what was going on in the economy you could have seen this price drop comming.

But don't get down and be happy with what you got.

wow only 4k miles on your rs why didnt you drive it?

Let's work it out:

New base MR: $35,000 (or less if you are a good negotiator.) has sold for this for a while

It's the year 2009...so let's use the IRS's very conservative depreciation amount of 20%...

$28,000 left...

Let's assume equal goods now, and take the EVO at $35,000 and compare used vs new financing.

Late model financing for a pretty good credit union: 4.99% for 60 months
Mitsubishi financing: 0% for 60.

To get equal payments the used car would have to be $31,000. Now add in depreciation/the fact that it is used and maybe abused, the itty bitty three year warranty is used up by however many months the prior owner used it... It's no suprise that anyone with a 2008 is taking a haircut if they are trying to sell now.

no doubt.... even with good financing (under 5%) on the used car, to get to even money the used will have to be 4-5 grand under the new car when manufacturers are offering 0% for 60 months. I am working a deal right now and shooting for around 32,500 for a base MR. Just based on those numbers a used MR has to be sub 28K territory... again, just to be even money. Factor in buying someone's seconds, and that car would have to be in the low 20's (another 6 grand off) for me to consider it even an OK deal

Agreed.

FWIW, I paid a bit below sticker for my SE, when I knew full-well that I could have gotten it for much less. OTOH, I would have had to pay for shipping, severely decreasing the possible savings, and the remaining ~$700 was well-worth it to me to be able to inspect the car before taking delivery and to establish a relationship with the store. My car is serviced at the same dealer, and they have not said word-one about a possible warranty violation due to the mods. The sole warranty issue I had was handled with blinding speed. During a casual discussion, just shooting the **** while having a cig, the service manager told me that none of that would have happened if I were not a costumer of the store. My point being, other factors figure into the price other than the actual amount paid.

car worth what the people willing to pay for it. You can advertise them 29k if nobody buy it for that.
But they will not put it out there: oke we sold it for 24 k.

Also i personally liked all the evo models i had and drove.
And that is more then 4 generation of evos.

For me the value of the evo is depending on :
-milage
-condition
-and the invested money in it. /example: full HKS turbo kit and exhaust, for me worth little extra money, for some the wheels and leathers do a same/

and i dont care that is an evo 4 or the IX.
