I think you are looking at it wrong. If the economy wasn't in such a dump the X wouldn't be selling for so little. It was bad timing. And the value of the IX isn't that great, an MR can be had for $20k.

All dealers are trying to push their new inventory and people aren't buying cars in these times. So they have to sell at or below invoice and offer special financing just to get people to buy. By lowering the price and offering 0% this obviously lowers the resale value on used Evolutions drastically.

12/17/08 NADE Lease $20,200 40,786 Avg DRGREY 4GT 6 Yes
Are those wholesale prices for dealers or auctioned cars?

I think the VIII/IX's hold their value pretty well given these cars are 3 yrs old now still selling for mid $20's or even higher.

Those are true market value prices, that's what dealers buy the Evos for at auctions.

Even check Edmunds.com '06 MR is valued at $20,000 dealer retail and a regular IX is only $18,000.

If you are paying over $25k for a used VIII or IX then you are loosing money.

Get over the IX's, they're not worth nearly anything near what you think they are.

Edmunds.com is the closests thing a consumer has to knowing real value of vehicles.

When you buy a car from a dealer and you trade in a vehicle, where do you think they go to determine the value of your car??? You think they check KBB? WRONG! They check recent auction prices to see what the cars have been selling for recently.

And from my experience, the Edmunds prices are the closests to the REAL market value you want to know.

If you want the best deal possible then you need to get as close as to that auction price as possible. In today's market dealers will go that far.

Wow, did you figure that out all by yourself? I had no idea! OBVIOUSLY I know that, and there is a reason why those auction prices show mileage, color, condition, etc.

That is why I still stand by the statement that you would be a FOOL to pay over $25k for a used IX. A best case scenario would be an above average condition MR with under 20,000 miles.

So don't let it hurt your ego that your Evolution isn't some super car that is holding it's value. The entire car market is soft and a lot of cars are hurting. Buyers with any knowledge and money know that right now isn't the time to be paying top dollar for any car. And if you think otherwise, well then... you're not really thinking. It's your loss....

I live down the street from SCM. Those used evo 8's and 9's do sell for those prices. Maybe around the country you can find way cheaper 8's and 9's. Everyone in Cali seems to want them. I have a few dealerships call me every month to ask me if I want to sell my car to them. The prices they are buying them back for are really high. Pretty crazy.

I'm not going to argue, I don't know what SCM buys for and sells the IX's for. I do however know what these cars can be had for.

I might have to contact my buddy at the dealership and let him know this high demand for the Evo IX... We'll start flipping the car, buy them for $15,000-$20,000 and sell them for $25,000-$40,000. That's a $10,000-20,000 profit on each car.

There'll always be stupid dealers selling cars at stupid prices..
I was looking at a 2004 Civic Si EP3 (unpopular, I know) for a DD/car to screw around a little with and a few dealers were selling them for damn near 20k..
Doesn't make them worth 20k. They sold with huge discounts for less than that brand new because the car was weak in its market.. Why would they sell for MORE than that 5 years later, used etc etc... They're stupid.

Force the dealers to compete with each other a little, or just look online, private parties always sell for less than dealer.

You should. But it might have something to do with location also.

What YOU are willing to pay isnt the set price for these cars....

I told you a low mile RS Evo was sold way in the upper $35,xxx

and if you wanna see a price jump on cars look at the Supra

Thats like saying why do people buy baseball cards or why pay an extra 10k for a GTR.....why go on Ebay and bid $1,200 on a PS3...or why by a used Wii for $500

People that are into cars will buy them at the price thats asked.

I am pretty sure there are people buyin EvoX for $50,000.....why the f*ck is that, huh
