Test drives not allowed?
I'm sure this is a car that get's a bogus test drive quite often...a lot of young punks with no intention and capacity to purchase stop in to the stealership. If you really are serious about buying and want to test drive before signing any paperwork just tell them you already have your financing in order and are shopping for a sports car; if refused a test drive I would tell them "ok, I'll take my business over to the next closest Mitsu dealer". There are a ton of great folks on the forum you could find someone in your area to take you on a real driving experience.
if a dealer gives you crap for a test drive, simply say "ok, i'll go to another dealership (throw dealership name here). You don't want my money? Fine, good luck!"
i didn't have to do that...but of course i dressed like i have money. which made it harder to get a bargain, but then at least they are willing to get on their knees and give good bj's.

yeah I think you should just find another dealership, I truly believe you actually have to drive it to know if you like, I got to drive both the STI and the EVO before finnally getting my EVO, my first choice was the STI

I was given the same BS about not being allowed to test drive the VIII, so I went to a different dealership and bought immediately after the drive.
Same with the X, but this time at the dealership I bought my VIII from. I said "no test drive, no sale", and they let me drive it. I bought right after the test drive again.
try growing a moustache and wearing really dark shades. smoke a cigarette as you walk to the door of the dealership and talk about the crappy state of the economy. then as you walk up to the EVO say DAMN THIS IS SOMETHING MY NO GOOD KID OF MINE WOULD DRIVE! really absurdly then kick the tires and ask him if its got a HEMI. then take 2 hours to talk about how back in your day you had to pay a quarter to make a phone call at a phone booth.
A few dealers told me I couldn't test drive. The one I wound up buying my car at MADE me test drive it before we even talked final numbers. I didn't even have much time behind the wheel driving a manual transmission, and the sales person insisted I went for a drive. Another sales guy wound up driving as I didn't want to destroy the clutch/embarrass the hell out of myself.
Try a different dealer, I'm sure you'll find one who will let you test drive. Pretty funny how they're still pulling that crap with the amount of cars that are sitting on lots right now.
