Truthfully I don't blame them, but I know it sucks. If they had two evos one with 200 miles and one with 5 which one would you want? The 5 mile one since the chances of it being beat on are nil.

You just need to talk to them. My dealer let me take an X out by myself, but I am not the kind of person to beat the hell out of it for fun. Also I was dead serious about buying and they knew it.

Good Luck
pretty much

OP: "Gotta be firm wit dem hoes!" I had a Subaru salesman leave me on the lot after I refused to let him run my credit (I already had my own financing.) He said he was going to get the keys to an STi I wanted to look at and never returned. I put a deposit down on my Evo the next day. D-bag...

I test drove four different Evo X's (three GSRs, one MR) at three different dealerships without any hassle. And I showed up in my Jeep which at the time was beat up (I was rear-ended by a Geico claims adjuster in a Geico car: priceless. )

Try another dealership. Where are you located? Chances are there is someone on here who knows of a better dealer in your area. Good luck.

At a Mazda and Mitsu joint dealership you can drive a speed3 or speed6 new, but not a new Evo. They let you agree on numbers and sign the papers then drive it. If you don't like it they just rip up the paperwork

Some dealers throw the keys to you and other times they won't even come out to talk to you. It gets a lot easier once you are 35 or 40 years old. I had one guy go thru the pre-delivery routine to show me a bunch of features thinking he was going to save time on a slam dunk deal on a vette...he never asked me if I wanted to drive it, just sort of pushed me into it. I obliged him.

The evo x was similarly almost as ridiculously offered up in my case... the car did sell itself though.

The dealership I went to didn't hesistate to let me take one for a test drive. Even though I was dressed like I was going to the beach, I think because of the fact I rolled up in a G35 they knew I had a little money, lol.

:isclaimer:: I'm not saying by owning a G35 you're automitcally a baller.

How the hell am I supposed to know if I like the car if I cant drive it?!...

I'm 40, married with kids...and drove-up in a G35 coupe...first dealership wouldn't let me test-drive (Stohlman Mitsubishi in Tysons Corner). I even offered to give them a $1K good-faith deposit.

Then I saw there was a low-mileage Evo X GSR for sale at Carmax - so I got a test-drive there. but Carmax was asking for new-invoice-price for a car with 800 miles. Rip-off....

I ended up buying from Castle Mitsubishi in Silver Spring, MD which let me test-drive before starting any paperwork.

Too bad for Stohlman because they were much closer to my house, and I would've bought on the spot if they had just let me try it.

Ya I had a similar thing happen to me but what I did was called the other dealership in the city in front of the manager and said "These guys won't let me drive their evo, if I drive to your dealership can I drive yours". The guy laughed and said he would make sure that a sales person gets it ready for the test drive. Strangely enough I bought it two weeks later from the dealership that let me take it for a ride. They are stupid if they do not let ppl drive it. Who would pay this much and not be able to drive it?

That doesn't surprise me. I'm from NoVA and Stohlman has always been a bunch of jerks.

But like others have said, I can not believe dealerships are still acting like this (no test-drives, asking over MSRP, etc.) with a car that is a year old and just sitting on lots. Hell, I went to a Benz dealer the other weekend and they had an '08 CLK550 cabrio that hadn't sold yet. The salesman told me right up-front that it was $17K off sticker and offered a test-drive, which I took. I even got to take a C63 (sweeeeet, but not $17K off ) for a short drive. These are $70K MSRP cars! It amazes me when I read about Mitsu, and Subaru, dealers acting like they do with $35K cars that aren't selling.

Pull up in an IX(borrow your friends?), they shouldn't ask you any questions then.

Now, this didnt come as a total surprise to me because back when the 8 first came out, I got a similar speal from a different dealership so I thought it was really the way things are.

I'm confused, is this really a policy?

Thanks.
