Test drives not allowed?

Hi I searched around but couldnt find anything. I noticed the 0% apr finance on EVOs and wanted to take a test drive.

Now, I'm a 6'0" mature 26 year old, not a high school kid. I went to the dealership and the guy said "Sorry I cant let you test drive it, company policies"!

How the hell am I supposed to know if I like the car if I cant drive it?!

Now, this didnt come as a total surprise to me because back when the 8 first came out, I got a similar speal from a different dealership so I thought it was really the way things are.

I'm confused, is this really a policy?

Thanks.

I believe you can't go in just for a test drive.. If you express serious interest in buying the car, or do the financing or paperwork, then of course you can. That's how it was with me. But if you just say "I wanna test drive the car" that they won't. Then again, I'm not sure exactly what you said

Yeah some dealerships will try this. Obviously they get all kinds of folks coming there beating the hell out of an Evo for fun with no interest in buying.

Truthfully I don't blame them, but I know it sucks. If they had two evos one with 200 miles and one with 5 which one would you want? The 5 mile one since the chances of it being beat on are nil.

You just need to talk to them. My dealer let me take an X out by myself, but I am not the kind of person to beat the hell out of it for fun. Also I was dead serious about buying and they knew it.

Good Luck

Well.. I didn't even have to ask for a test drive. The sales guy asked me if I wanted to test drive one. He let me drive both the MR and the GSR.. Oddly though I think the guy got fired the week after that..

Took me about 3 or 4 times of going back before they let me drive it, but the guy who did let me finally drive it got my business. I'm sure they looked at me and saw just another kid wanting a test drive with no intentions of buying the car.

Hmm, interesting experiences. I was honest w/ him, basically said I'm looking because of the finance deal but dont know if I like the EVO or not and needed time in the car to find out.

I guess it depends a lot on dealerships and salesperson as well. I am not going to beat on the car, afterall it might be MINE in the end! lol... I just wanted to know if he was being an *** or is this really happen.

Go to another dealership - or bring your wife or girlfriend with you - def. adds to the "responsibility".

I can't believe dealerships are still doing this.

Silly.

Come to Dallas. Don Herring will let you test drive whatever you want.

try growing a moustache and wearing really dark shades. smoke a cigarette as you walk to the door of the dealership and talk about the crappy state of the economy. then as you walk up to the EVO say DAMN THIS IS SOMETHING MY NO GOOD KID OF MINE WOULD DRIVE! really absurdly then kick the tires and ask him if its got a HEMI. then take 2 hours to talk about how back in your day you had to pay a quarter to make a phone call at a phone booth.

I had the same thing happen at a Subaru dealership when I wanted a WRX, That would be Huffines in Lewisville, Tx----they couldnt find the keys. I have about 10yrs on you and excellent credit...Well, thats why I drive an EVO today. Don't get mad, punish them financially by taking your business elsewhere. Its the American way.

I destroyed a brand new EVO during my test drive. In fact the sales manager encouraged me to smash the gas and rip through the corners. Of course I didn't buy that one but it was fun
