Without a lot of people buying cars, dealerships don't have much say these days and should do everything they can do push their product. I would go to a different dealership if they're not interested in your business

Its up to the dealer, no matter what the economy is like. People have to realize. Just like you can say "F you, I'm buying somewhere else." They can say, "No thanks, we don't wish to risk our money on you to see if you might buy." Those cars are their property. They bought them and they have a right to do and let test drive, refuse to demo, sell or not sell just like you would with your own property. IF you think that's stupid, fine, your opinion might change if you had hundreds of thousands of dollars of YOUR OWN MONEY tied up in a dealership.

But what can I say, people are spoiled. The car buying experience is definitely a buyer's market and there are so many choices and dealers to choose from. Maybe when a few more hundreds, or perhaps THOUSANDS of dealers get shut down because of this car depression we are in, some of you will see things differently. Like when you can't drive 10 miles to the next like branded dealer to see what they'll let you do/get away with. Like when you aren't allowed to ever demo a car before credit worthiness is proven, or there are just flat out fewer choices period. I hope it never happens, but it looks like we are well on our way there.

Part of the problem with test driving is that some of these cars have been on the lots a long long time. A few test drives a week add up to a lot of miles in a few months. The first dealer I went to wanted me to drive a white one (which I did). A couple of X's there had 300 miles on them.
They didn't have a GG one, so I didn't get one from them. Went to Cherry Hill Mitsu (in New Jersey) and was told I could drive any one I wanted. Got a great deal, and a mitsu loyalty bonus due to already having a mitsu; plus the 0% which is really what made the deal.

I'm the same way. I didn't drive mine, but I didn't mention it because I'm in this business and had driven several before. I don't understand why people need to demo something first. I mean, just go sit in one, test drive a used one, ride with someone who has one. If you fit and can see out of it, what else is there really to know that hasn't been written or tested by someone else?

But I know if I suddenly had the money to buy a GT-R, or a Murcielago SV. I'd just go in an buy it, wouldn't give a damn if I didn't get to drive it first. Never drvien either vehicle. But that's the way it is for exotics, motorcycles, watercraft etc...

The dealership I went was going to let me test drive a X but I decided not to. He did tell the reason they don't let most people test drive them is that many new owners insisit on next to zero miles and not a flogged on examples.

How the hell am I supposed to know if I like the car if I cant drive it?!

Now, this didnt come as a total surprise to me because back when the 8 first came out, I got a similar speal from a different dealership so I thought it was really the way things are.

I'm confused, is this really a policy?

Thanks.
tell him your a potential buyer and if they want you or any of your other friends who want to buy evo's as well to do business with them than youll get a test drive or ask for the manager and he should take care of it.

such dealership douchebaggery should not be tolerated and has been tried on me, when i just bought a car from them 6 months prior.....i asked for the manager and i had money and ready to sign the papers, and he smacked the salesman on the back of the head as soon as he saw me! i loved it! then came the test drive and i bought it after 20 minutes of driving.

You don't understand why ppl want a test drive? Why would u ever buy a car like this without a test drive? Its not like this is a rare car or the best car in the world, don't get me wrong I love it, but it is no GT-R. Why a dealer wouldn't just buy an extra evo and keep it just for test drives blows my mind. You don't have to let ppl take out every car but atleast one should not be a big issue. I didn't have to drive the colour of car I wanted but I def wanted to try the evo prior to purchase. Honestly I can drive a $80K benz in my city with no issue but I can't drive an evo. No wonder they have a bad name for customer service.

That's what I said.

I already explained it. I've never driven an X or GT-R but I would buy either one of them without driving either. Because I know what I want, but that's just me.

GT-R may be awesome to you, but someone else might say that it isn't a rare car nor the best car in the world. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a Veyron. To each his own. Who decides what is rare and what is best?

$$$$. You're just trying to tell other people how to spend their money and run their business, which is fine you're welcome to your own opinion, but you have to remember, its just an opinion.

Honestly I can drive a $80K benz in my city with no issue but I can't drive an evo.
That's interesting.

There are a lot of reasons to demo something first. It doesn't even have to apply to a car. No one wants buyers remorse and buying something blindly (regardless of how many magazines or reviews you've read) is not the smartest decision. If you're in love with the car and always wanted it then by all means buy it. However, a 30g purchase is nothing to shrug your shoulders at. Years ago my parents were buying an suv and they test drove the BMW X5, Merc ML, Lexus RX, Acura MDX, and the Audi. They originally wanted the Lexus because of the reviews and what not but ended up buying the Merc. Why you ask? Well because everyone has different priorities, tastes, and life styles.

A magazine review is someone else's subjective opinion. I'd rather make up my own mind and be 100% sure. I went in to buy a '08 STI because it has more practical utility but I drove the damn thing and quickly changed my mind.

Also on a "new" car you will not always find someone who is willing to let someone else test it out and just sitting along for the ride isn't the same as driving the car. Plus, based off your logic if everyone went off of magazine articles then everyone would be driving the same car from that market segment.

I have to agree with you. . 30k is no small sum to part, especially during this depressing period.

When people look into your credit then it can have an adverse effect on it, it looks like you applied for a loan and got denied. I only found this out after my bank told me, thank God I never did that. Might only be in Canada this applies, no idea about the USA

This is why some dealerships don't allow test drives.

There is no way I'd want to buy a car that has been ragged out and treated like crap by someone who has no intention of buying it.

I test drove two different Xs when I bought mine to compare the transmission shifting. I never went into boost in either of them and never revved either over 3500rpm. Why damage someone else's car? No redlining until the engine is broken in as per manufacturer recommendations. Even if you don't believe that, you should at least observe it unless you are 100% sure you are taking the car home.
