I was actually encouraged to rip a demo X GSR down the belt parkway for about 15 minutes with the sales manager.

do a quick google search for the dealership and give them a call. really nice people over there.
thanks for the tip apexsilver

Pretty much the only way to test an evo is to get pre-approved by the bank or present an official check from the bank

I don't blame them. It's bad when they judge people poorly, but I wouldn't let anyone just walk in and want to take a 35K car for a joyride. The problem is when the dealers mistreat people, but if they politely say the reasons why they can't its not a big deal. I mean, they take a copy of your license don't they? You'd be stupid to take the car out and then rip apart and they just say "hey thanks!" an leave. Maybe it's just me, but I think there is a few bad drivers out there that are ruining it for the rest of us.

I'm 20 and I probably look younger, I was stereotyped and that's the treatment I got at one dealership I went to. The whole "he just wants to joyride" belief. I can't wait to see the look on their face when I pull in with my Evo (purchased at a better dealer) for it's schedule check up. ... and I don't even have to pay them...

There's nothing they can do unless the car has been damaged in an accident, and even then it isn't very easy to collect. What if the person has no insurance? They can't just bill you because you drove it too hard. Getting a license is mainly for protection if the car is stolen, wrecked or if you kill the salesperson.

They get paid by Mitsubishi corp for free service. This is why they sometimes are willing to sell cars at cost.

In CO, state law dictates that insurance goes with the car, not the driver. I just recently learned this after a friend of mine got into an accident in my vehicle. Unfortunately, my insurance has to cover it, even though he is also insured with state farm on his own vehicle. So in the case of a demo car, the dealership must have insurance to cover those incidents. It's up to them if they want to try to recover some sort of deductible, but I doubt if it would be worth it to them.

Generally, when I go to a dealership to buy a car I'm already set on what I want.
They'll ask me if I want to test drive the car and I politely tell them that there's no point to test drive until we settle on a price because I wouldn't want to add miles on something that I may not have a significant chance of purchasing.
I would also never purchase something that has test drive miles on it.

As annoying and stupid as it is that they wont let people test drive them I understand why not, I would want brand new no-miles in order to buy. I'm sure lots of people do try to test drive them to beat on them, and most people want Evos with no miles so break in motor properly, I wouldn't buy one new-ish, like more than 5 or 6 miles unless I was going to buy a used one with low miles. I think they SHOULD allow interested people a drive, have a demo model or something just for that reason. I ordered my IX without having ever driven an Evo- it was risky, but turned out well. I'm actually glad I got to test drive an STI and realize I did not like the handling and crappy loose steering, and then checked out the Evo

My experience:

Pull up in a nice car, preferably infront of the sales desk.

I pulled up in a c5 vette, 15 min later I was test driving the evo.

I ended up purchasing it elsewhere! best of luck

Edit: I also told them if the price is right I will take it today.

I went to one stealership in my area, stood outside looking at their four evo x's for about fifteen minutes and wasnt even approached. Finally I walked inside and asked if I could drive one of their cars. They refused so I walked out. Mostly because I wasnt politely approached and asked if I needed help.

I called another stealership and they agreed to let me drive one of their evos briefly if a salesman went along. That was more than acceptable.

They had the best deal in four states so I bought that exact car from them today.

Another stealership in the next state over had an evo x with twohundred-thirty miles. I balked at that and the salesman claimed one of the managers had it for a couple of days. When I talked to the financial guy over the phone he admitted they had been letting "Kids drive them because nobody will buy them unless they do". Cough, cough. Who knows what that car went through.

The car I bought has forty-seven miles on it and even that made me think. Five to ten would have been better-

I just test drove a GSR last night. granted, they had to run a credit check on me first, but they were cool about it. they flat out told me they dont do test drives without a credit check, but they weren't dicks about it. The finance manager typed in some of my information, hit enter, looked up at my salesman and said "hell yeah, let him drive it" and that was that. I'm 22.

I didn't get to test drive when I first brought my GSR. But when I came around again inquiring the MR. they threw me the keys and let me tear it up. So my dealer here is pretty profiling everyone that walks in. Yet their prices are ridiculous. they drive to get me buy the MR for $48,000
