Is it just me ?
Is it just me ?
Okay, (putting on flame suit) , is it just me or is this car really difficult to start on a hill relative to other manuals ( I have probably around 200K clocked on other manuals never having a problem , wearing a clutch, know how to slip a clutch and hold a car in place pretty much indefinitely, etc..) . I've had in the last 2 weeks had to start from basically a dead stop on a fairly steep incline (road workers stopped traffic ahead , I was on hill with car behind). Both times I've smelled some clutch (the only times since buying it last summer).
I think it's some combination of the high engagement and the dreaded rev hand (mostly this). Probably mostly that throttle hang characteristic that prevents any normal modulation of the throttle while it's in that mode (hangs for like a full 2 count with any input and is sort of a zombie at that point). I find myself actually avoiding these kinds of starts when it's not something that's ever really concerned me before (I not something I want to "practice" in X).
Anyway, just curious if anyone else experiences this (I'm fully open to the possibility it's just me).

I haven't noticed, other than to say the car bogs under low rpm launches regardless of the incline...but I've had cars that were much worse in that regard.
When in doubt, just hold the parking brake up until the clutch bites.

Well i've never had to resort to that before, but who knows.
I guess the best description of it is that it feels like I'm operating the clutch and someone else is operating the throttle (again due presumably to the rev hang thing).
BTW, does everyone get that rev hang? It's the only car I've ever driven with it. On the plus side the notchiness of the shifter has got much better with time.

Yeah, the "rev hang" has been complained about by professional reviewers as well. On the bright side, it does make it easier to rev match on down shifts.
Driving a manual car is just too much fun. I test drove the Ralliart and I knew immediately there was no way I would get the SST on my Evo. Best auto in the business? Maybe...but still an auto.

but figured I was at least as good as the general population and it just had me feeling like a noob. But somehow I just can't get the throttle inputs and high release timed right on a steep incline...that rev hang just throws off my timing or something. I do agree with the prior poster thought that the car is easy to rev match on downshifts (though I think I'd trade that for more consistent throttle response).
I dont have any problems either, I think you just need more time adjusting to the X.
When I had my VIII I didn't have any problems either, Then I got the clutch changed and it took me a few days to get used to it since the engagement was complelty different.
And I think someone said that the rev hang was due to emissions.
