Hydroplaned Bad outcome
Sorry to hear bro! Glad no ones hurt... one thing i learned after gettin my evo is that to contol it, u need to keep your foot on the gas. Poppin it outta gear n leavin it in Neutral is the worst thing to do. When ya feel the cars going outta control, u just need to know which direction to point it in and step on the gas a bit to get it back in control.. mayb my explaination isnt the best but u can try gettin some drivin courses.. they surely do a gr8 job..
best of luck!
best of luck!
Thanks for all the replies guys, gals. I came to realize that indeed it was my fault driver error also lack of experience. But i will learn and live. I went to get her appraised today it came out around 2500K. The only thing im mostly worried is how will the paint look/match. But i have no choice i have to put her under the knife to get her fixed. As far as the driving lesson/autocross i strongly will consider this for this summer, hopefully chicagoland has these things around. Thanks again for all the replies. Ill post pictures so atleast you guys can see how she looks.
To find one in your area, check out the local Midwest forum. Post a thread in there asking about upcoming driving events, driving courses and autocross events. Just make sure to find an event that has an instructor

Hi all I have an 05 STI thinking about the X. I have a story to tell around traction or lack of it We just got back from the Vail area from our annual road trip in our STI. 950 miles a day! Speaking of black ice on day one we are traveling at about XXmph (speedo is off by 4mph) heading down a hill our trusty V1 just a few miles earlier signaled another cop in waiting and we passed by him at the legal 65mph speed. So we are heading down this hill not too steep along I80 about 40 miles from the Ohio line and my wife says "black ice" I say I don't see anything and the next thing I know we are traveling very fast sideways my wife says nothing..l am making gurgling like sounds resisting the temptation to hit the brakes and take the steering wheel and the car in the other direction kind of like scrubbing speed down a ski slope then turn the wheel the other way again (gurgle gurgle) and we are get down to about 40 mph sideways and we started to slowly spin around at this point we have slowed a lot but I am afraid of the other traffic on the road with us and they did a very credible job of disappearing so I am completing my pirouette an almost complete 360 at about 30 mph and just drove it off the road to the center median and braked hard on the grass. We stopped gurgling and started thanking GOD. I get out of the car and there is NO DAMAGE a car pulls off and a local (turns out she was a nurse) good samaritan asks if we are alright. Just then she says OMIGOD a GMC AVALANCHE spins off the road 100 feet behind us and turns upside down. I leave my wife with the car and take off with the nurse to the GMC and we are slipping on the ice running to the upside down SUV all the while I am making frantic slow motions to all the traffic on 80 we get to the upside AVALANCHE pull open the door not knowing what we would see and thank GOD the driver and only passenger was totally fine a big smile on his face realizing he cheated certain injury maybe worse. He says he hit his brakes when he started to slide. Moral of the story (actually several) don't use the brakes in an out of control slide DUH. We slowed down for a few miles and continued on to Colorado. I like to think my suspension (Bilstein PSS9) and the tires (Dunlop M3 pumped to 38psi front and 35 psi rear) saved us but in truth it was out of my hands.
I have hydroplaned quite a few times on the stock Advans.
As someone mentioned when hydroplaning the car travels in the direction it was going in when it hit the water.
The best thing to do in a hydroplane situation is firm up the grip on the steering wheel, keep it heading in the same direction and keep applying the same throttle. Because if you turn the wheel while you are hydroplaning the vehicle will continue on the same direction it was heading in from the time you hit the water UNTIL you clear the water and regain traction, at which point the vehicle will suddenly follow the direction you are turning the wheel in (so it better be the right direction).
BTW what would AYC have to do with it, if anything I have felt the great advantages of AYC in the snow as of late, it has corrected my lines after a controlled slide wonderfully. It is the devil indeed, haha.
